What's wrong with my garter snake?

My garter snake has been acting strange for a little while. He keeps opening and closing his mouth. More recently he's been looking very thin and acting slow, even with his twice a week feeding and constant water. I think it may be internal parasites but I don't know how to get rid of them. Please help!

  1. Well I could go on about what it could be but I don't want to be wrong and then things aren't going to be so great for you or the snake.

Just take it to the vet...it's your best bet.

  2. take to a vet

  3. take it to the vet asap. they can give you the right information and help you and your snake out a lot...dont wait to long or it could turn out tragic.

  4. first take him to a vet then clean out his cage and look very carefully through the bedding to see if there are any mites. if there are get those reptile sprays that kill mites and the spray that kills mites off the cage. then buy a pest strip from a hardware store. it looks like a yellow piece of plastic in a gray case. if you read the package it says that it releases fumes or vapors that kill bugs which is what you want. it doesnt hurt the snake i use it in my garter, python, leopard gecko, and cornsnake cage and they are all fine.

  5. call the vet! its that easy, people on this may give you the wrong info, i dont think you should risk it.
