Question:

What's wrong with my golf swing?

When I swing when I'm teeing off I focus directly on the ball. I hold the club straight and my hands are correct. I swing straight, fast, and clean through. I hit it high and far. But for some reason, almost every time, I ether hit the top of the ball, and it goes nowhere, or I cut it, and its lost in the trees.

  1. it's hard to say without seeing your swing, but if you are topping it, you may be looking up to early.  make sure you keep your head down until after you've hit the ball.

  2. without any knowledge of what your swing looks like, i would check out these videos. he gets very good reviews from what ive seen and he talks about topping the ball and hooks/slices, among others

  3. most problems in golf, when the ball is miss hit, it is usually because you are looking up (taking your eye off the ball). i, and every other golfer had or has this problem.  In order to fix this you want to pick a spot on the ball, as detailed as possible, maybe a letter from the brand, like the tip of the nike swoosh, whatever, but whatever it is, focus on it. when you swing, don't look up until your back shoulder comes in contact with your chin and then you can look up to see the ball.  people think you will lose the ball during its flight but you can still see where it goes! hope this helps and hit em' big!

  4. If you truely want to correct your swing.....I'd advise lessons from a Teaching Pro.  He will actually be able to see your swing and offer corrections to the swing flaws that he sees.....Lacking the visual of your swing...there is little that anyone can do to assist you.

  5. from personal experience if i top the ball or dig the dirt i am taking my eye off the ball (lifting my head) early . keep your head down and remember to follow through. hope this helps

  6. I am no Pro but have been playing  for almost two years.  Get to a range and practice practice practice....for the longest time my drives were really straight and really high, until it hit the top of the flight then it would turn sharply to the right ie a mid flightt slice,  I go to the range at least twice a week and play twice a week, it does help. Keep your head down, keep your left arm straight, this will help you topping the ball, slow your swing down to help get the basics down.  Good Luck

  7. I remember my dad always taught me to keep looking at the ball and not move it up until the right shoulder naturally bumps into it as part of the swing.

This is a tip I still use today and I rarely top the ball.

    Good luck!
