Question:

What's wrong with my mouth?

I have a raised white line on the inside of my cheek. It appears from time to time and will stay for a day or two and then disappear. It is mildly painful, and doesn't last very long. Twice now I have actually gotten a sharp pain in the same spot, when I went to look in the mirror there was a bloody blister. As soon as I popped it went away. I know this is not normal and I plan to seek professional help, but I wanted to get some opinions on what it could be.

  1. Hard to say. How are your feet? Any sores or problem areas? I read in the New York Times that there has been a resurgence of foot and mouth disease. You may want to consult a physician.

  2. Try webmd.com they have a symptom checker on there website. Hate to break the news though sounds like you have herpes!

  3. It sounds to me like a canker sore. They're actually very common and harmless unless you count the pain when you get them. o.O

Doctors don't know what causes them, most say stress. You'll just have to let it go away on it's own, but they do have very fun numbing pain medicine for them. :)

  4. If the blister is on your gums, it sounds like one of your tooth got infected and it might be a abscess. You need to take antibiotics to treat it if you have it.

  5. On the inside of the cheek is called "linea alba"

No big deal....and the blisters are from biting it...

    not to worry....normal!

  6. do you by any chance grind or clench your teeth at night?  people that do develop a white line on their cheek muscle, which corresponds to where their upper and lower teeth meet.  This is known as 'linea alba', and means white line.

most ppl tend to grind or clench during times of stress; i clenched for all four years in dental school.  it wasn't until i was out that i realized i clenched.  the fact that you're getting a blister may be because you bit your teeth while clenching or grinding.

    hope that helps
