I have two parakeets, a male and a female in the same small cage, the female is acting oddly, she stays at the floor of the cage or in her eating place most of the time, she used to spend most of the time on the cage's stick like the male does.

One more thing, she closes her eyes for a while and then opens them, and sometimes closes only one eye, Please tell me whaat to do. Thanks

  1. She sounds sick. Take her to a vet that works well with birds.

  2. You female is sick and is probably going to passaway so prepare your heart. If she passes away there is nothing you can do. There is nothing you can do for her now anyhow. Just know you can get another one after she passes away in memory of her not to simply replace her.

  3. i don't know much about breeding/pregnancy with parakeets..but either it may be pregnant..or sick..take to vet ASAP..i will pray for you.

  4. It sounds like something maybe wrong with her. I used to have one and he started acting weird and I didn't think anything was wrong with him and he ended up dying. :-( I wouldn recommend taking her to the vet to be safe.

  5. There's deffently something wrong with her. Before my parakeet died, she was laying on the bottom of the cage. Wished i had done something sooner. You should take her to the vet.

  6. when a bird spends time on the floor of the cage that is not a good sign.  Call a avian vet as soon as you can if you care about your bird.

  7. Either she is afraid of the male, watch him for aggressive behavior, or she is sick or injured.

Instints for survival make our birds hide their sickness and by the time we notice they are sick often it is too late to save them.

Observe your birds often so that you know each one's normal behavior's, then you can quickly spot when something isn't quite right and get them vet checked ASAP.

Is the female eating and drinking normally.

Look at her droppings, are the normal.

Check her wings and legs and toes for bite or other injuries.

Suggest you remove the male and cage him by himself right away. If the female is sick then the male may contact what she has, if not sick then it is stress that is causing her to display these behavior's.
