Question:

What's wrong with my system?

I've had two 12's splitting power from one 1200w amp for over a year now and in the past month it starts giving me trouble. I usually keep my volume on about 20-21 depending on the song. Well, that's the max atleast, because after that it starts distorting through my speakers (not my subs, the car speakers). Recently unless I keep the volume below 15-17 my subs will just stop working. I haven't messed with any wiring or settings since I installed them last July so I don't know what's causing the problem here. Thanks.

  1. Check your groundwire from youre amp. While youre at it, check all your wires. You might be overloading the amp if the subs are bridged and the impedence is to low for the speakers. Ive had my system bridged before and my amp shuts off because it has overload protection. It would only do that when it was turned up really loud. If you have them brigded you might want to split them into different channels. If it is a 2 channel amp then 1 of the channels might be bad. If the amp actually shuts off then its going into overload mode to protect it from blowing. Be sure to check your wires.

  2. you speaker response might not work in the range of volume, or your amp turns off.

  3. sounds like u need a new amp. how old is the amp?

  4. you mite need to get new speekers

  5. what you should do is get your battery checked and if that is not it then check to see if ur speaker wires are loose.
