I was watching tv, when I turned it off it made a weird noise. Well I turn it back on and all of a sudden, the WHOLE screen is gone and all

thats left is a really small screen and I can't see a single letter.

It's very small, one vertical line down the middle.

It's an old tv and I've been looking on Yahoo Answers for awhile, and all I see is that I have to have knowledge of a soldering gun? idk... just different stuff.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it.

=/

p.s. It's NOT Plasma. It says "RCA" at the bottom and it has a really big back to it.

  1. You have what is called a Rear Projection Tv (RPTV), and RCA was not really known for building quality RPTV's.

You could pay to get it fixed, but you may find that it may be a better option to buy a new plasma or LCD TV.

What you describe could be a mutitude of problems and would need a tech to come out and look at the TV.

    Sorry.

  2. It sounds like the deflector went bad. Could be anything.

Consider this, you have more than recouped the cost of the TV via years and years of viewing. If you can afford to, buy a new one. I am the same with my cars. I drive them untill the wheels fall off to recoup the money I spent.

  3. you've got a problem, houston. Sound like you have a failed component in the horizontal deflection circuit. Call a local TV repair shop, see if they'll give you an estimate. Make sure you have the model number when you call them, it makes it way easier.
