What's wrong with our society, the more advanced we are the more we seem to work,now you need 2 jobs to surviv

Years ago, women would be able to be stay at home wifes, the husband would come home from his only job and afford to pay the bills.

Now, women and men both work, Some have even resorted to working two jobs.

What's happening!?!? as time goes on, we work harder for less, and it's not just us, it's all over the world, everyone is working harder just to make it.

It's called the Federal Reserve! They have control over our economy instead of a free market or even Congress. They have devalued our currency by about 95% by excessive dollars in circulation. They cause the "bubbles" in the economy by lowering interest rates too low and then when everyone is deep in debt they raise interest rates and cause a recession. Then they start the process all over again.

The government then "cooks" the CPI numbers, they are showing inflation running at about 2% when it's really at 11.8%. That is stealing from your pocket without you even knowing. The Federal Reserve is a private banking system.

I think a lot of what you and the previous posters have said is true... but we also have some blame.

In the time you speak of, ppl didnt run up credit, need a plasma tv and internet connection, cable, etc.  A new comp, mp3 player,  etc.

Most of it is because we want more than we used to.  We want all the neat new gadgets (which also tend to be expensive, neat new gadgets).  We want a life style that requires a lot of money to support.

There are plenty of households where only one person works.  However, they don't tend to make the news.

Stupidity mostly.  Most people today dont question our elected officials. They believe that the news doesnt produce the propaganda in America, because they were "taught" that in school.

Welcome to getting screwed by both our government and Corporate America.

My wife and I are in the same boat: $900 rent, $8.01 for the average minimum-wage, but we need at least TWICE that amount just so we can get ahead.

But the second we mention 'living wages', the GOP, their supporters, and Corporate America starts bitching about how much they will go out of 'business' if wages are pushed too high.

So...suppressed wages and zero bennies--it is!
