What's wrong with politics and politicians in America? (Diatribes welcome!)?

I want to hear a diatribe, I don't want to post my own anti-government schpeels here. Be careful, revolutionary statements like "I want our corrupt government to be toppled like the house of cards it truly is" may get the Secret Service on your doorstep! Short of guillotining Congress and the President and storming the Capitol and White House (a la 18th century France) give me your best description of what to change and HOW. The why is not as important, because there are too many why's evident to all of us. HOW will you change America?

  1. God, that's a hard question... We've let people make decisions for us our entire lives with our trust manifesting itself in their word's; or so we thought.

The entire political system in the U.S. needs attention. It's turning into the media. A profit based decision every signature away... Sad.

  2. Change the whole system. There was an Eddie Murphy movie a few years ago where he ran for political office. It sums up the innate corruption of the system very well.

  3. The first answer is not only incorrect, it is precisely how we got into this mess.

I want the elected politicians to abide by the Constitution.  At present, any similarity between acts of Congress and those authorized by the Constitution appear purely coincidental.

Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe Congressmen take an oath of office to "uphold and defend the will of the People", but I think it's the Constitution.

  4. My issue is that our politicians are elected officials that are supposed to represent the will of the people.

When did a congressmen stop being a representative of electors and the leader of them???

A senator is supposed to respect the will of the people and represent them in government, they are not supposed to vote for what they think is best...they are supposed to vote for what the people want.

They are not to be pushing for their own aggenda or promoting one's self for higher office.

They are simply to vote on issues representing the will of the people.

When did all these people become 'leaders', when did politicians suddenly become so much smarter than the people who elected them. I find the democrats particularly guilty of this.
