Question:

What's wrong with some of the answerers on this forum?

It seems to me that there is a clique of answerers here that is really beginning to act annoying....people like blogbaba and toughguy whose answers i always enjoyed reading are beginning to sound a little bit too biased especially when it comes to boxers like Quarry,Marciano and gene tunney, they seem to defend these boxers as if they were the greatest fighters God ever created yet it does not take a genious to know that they are wrong, Marciano was a tough Boxer but he never faced a strong level of competition (that's just the fact) his toughest opponents were already old (moore, walcott, louis, charles) and all the other guys were not that great, tunney was okay but to say that he could win against people like lennox lewis or even tyson is just plain silly,as for quarry he was okay but to put him above lennox, evander or even tyson (yes blogbaba i said it) is just illogical, yet these guys seem to worship these fighters as if they were supermen when in fact there are many better boxers.

  1. Ive noticed allot of answers regarding boxing on this Forum are generic arguments probably ripped off some website, copy and pasted then edited to make it seem like its their answer.  With the whole point system your going to run into these problems. If you actually know boxing you can pick them out.

As to the "Then Vs Now" questions. And to say if they were around today they would benifit from better health and training, because if they packed on the pounds they would lose their stamina, speed, agility and foot work so they wouldnt even be the same fighter. So that argument is bullshit dont even try to make it.

Ill take Blog whoever and whoever, and we can go toe to toe in boxing knowledge, I bet you’d find they don’t know that much about the sport, You can tell from their answers, its the answers and arguments ive heard a thousand times, not original.

Course if their in their 70's or 80's maybe they truly believe Marciano was superman. But old men usually always trust in the old ways, old days and the old champions.

For them sadly the sport has passed them by and they cling to the memories of listening to Title fights on the radio with their family sitting around a fire. So to them that is the Golden age of the sport. Much like horror movies and tall tales, people were easier to impress back then. Sorry to the Old timer boxing fans on the forum. (respect)

I know you were watching boxing when I was still shitting my diapers, but I went and learned your old history and I experienced the new history. Also Donnie "Sailor" McKinnon an old boxing trainer in newbunswick would sit for hours and talk boxing new and present.

Especially with the Marciano vs. Tyson question, Yes Marciano was great in his time, but much too small to compete today. You don’t have to be a boxing fan to know that, you just have to know a little something about physics and anatomy.

I think its stupid to even compare pre 60 heavyweights to modern heavyweights; it’s a different division all together.

Boxing admitted it itself when they introduced the Super Heavyweight division which was horrid but they did it because Heavyweights were becoming so d**n big and strong, they didn’t want their current "money" heavyweights to lose so they made the Super division and threw the giants into it.

But it was so horrible they scraped it in the Pro's and then  they installed the Cruiserweight division as the old Heavyweight division and the Super Heavyweight as Heavyweight (good choice).

So when comparing Marciano’s, Louis, Tunney, and Dempsey to current champions, try comparing them to the cruiserweight or light heavyweight divisions. Because by today’s standards none of those guys would make 200 lbs without packing on a huge belly.

With respect to old time boxers and old timer boxing fans

  2. It is common in the world of sports to have people like this, they remember the fighters that they grew up liking and view them to be a lot greater than they actually are simply because they do not want to "stain" the image that they have of these fighters, it is that kind of hero worship that made people believe that Gerry Cooney could beat Larry Holmes or that Marciano could beat Foreman, sometimes people relegate themselves to their own ideological bubble and simply reject anything that does not reinforce their beliefs and ideas, even though theymight be in the wrong...just don't bother with them.

  3. I think there shoud be little doubt that we all genuinely appreciate some part of the subject of boxing.  I know that's what drew me to check out this forum -- just a few days ago.  I hope we can all express our positions and thoughts with respect, though; that way we maximize the experience that we all get from this medium and keep it focused on what brought most if not all of us here to begin with -- the subject of boxing.  Maybe I'm mistaken.  I'll hope for that anyway.

  4. untouchable we all know that's you hahaha your going on about Marciano not fighting anyone that was good and saying the best fighters he fought was past there prime well you know what Tyson has done just the same the 2 biggest names he beat was Holmes who was why past his prim and Spinks and this is the guy you worship we all know you just want to get raped by Tyson

EDIT: hahahaha mowglibi we know your untouchable to you really are a sad little boy whats up with you did your daddy used to rape you or something

  5. woah, that iss quite a lot of writing for a complaint!! lool

  6. to each there own?

  7. Not going to jump too far into this conversation.  But a modern day Tunney would benefit from better health and training and would probably weigh 220 and have a couple more inches in height.  He would absolutely do more than just hold his own with today's fighters, and would compete with any fighter of any era.  The dude withstood Dempsey's onslaught, he most surely would withstand a Klitschkoe.  Take a careful look at the films and you'll see the archtypical slick boxer, but for his era, he was way ahead of his time.  I have him ahead of both Dempsey and Marciano, as he'd just plainly box their ears in, as he would every fighter that depended upon brute force.

  8. I think all of you guys are wrong to assume who will beat who. Can Rocky Marciano, Gene Tunney, Jack Dempsey beat George foreman, Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston. No one will know for sure. Size does matter a little but it is not the only factor. Evander Holyfield win over Lennox Lewis, Chris Byrd over David Tua, Roy Jones Jr. defeat of John Ruiz are proof that a smaller man can defeat a larger man. How much Roy weight compare to Marciano, Tunney, Dempsey...about the same or less. Another factor is style make fight, Ali had a hard time against Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, George Foreman knock Joe and Ken out easily but lose to Ali...so anything is possible but never assume. People think Gerry Cooney can beat Larry Holmes back then not because of race but because he KO Ken Norton and Ken fought Larry to a close 15 rounds decision.

  9. thats just their opinion

i think mariano would lose two out of the four  top guys he fought like joe wallcot, joe louis, archie moore or ezzard charles if these guys were in their prime

  10. Thumbs up to Gannoway excellent analogy, and thumbs up to most except the dork brigade

U had a good question for a while then u had to ruin it by pulling the race card. See in my country U.S.A. its called an opinion. And we have the free right to it. Im the biggest Rocky homer on answers and im not shy about it. I posted a simple question about ''Iron Bite'' against my top 5 all time and some pansy troll had it pulled. See it has to work both ways. People can ramble about their fighter but when someone comes by with a different opinion they get massacred. The argument about the level of fighters in the Rock's day will go on forever. But he did beat EVERY man he ever fought as a pro. Only Holmes and Valuev came close to breaking his record and both fought in bad eras in the heavyweight division. The era now is worse than ever!  We all have our favorites, I have a top ten u probably have a top ten, everyones opinion varies.

But in closing it is kind of hypocritical to put down legends like Marciano and Tunney ( I dont consider Quarry a legend) but gasp in awe at Tyson as if he were a God. What legend did he beat in his prime? He was knocked out in his prime!  I just think everyone needs to chill this isn't a mine is bigger than yours contest. Its a Q & A forum where we are suppose to learn from eachother, but hate is everywhere. Oh well.
