Here's what I see is wrong:

~ Teaches our daughters they have to dress s**y and act flirty to be attractive.

~Teaches our boys they have to find trampy looking girls attractive

~Gives our childredn the impression that violence is fun, pretend, and not harmful

~Hollywood makes men out to be second rate to women. Most shows/movies have the weak men relying on the strong women for intellegence.

~Gives the impression that women have to be out in a "carrerr" to be a sucessfull person.

Your turn. What do you think is wrong with TV?

  1. Commercial tv is essentially just a mechanism by which to make your kids become good consumers (that also goes for product placement inside regular programming).

But the worst thing about tv is that it takes kids away from real life.  If you're watching tv, you're not having a conversation, solving a problem, getting exercise, reading a book, being outside, doing a puzzle, or otherwise experiencing real life.

  2. s*x, launguage and violence.tv has always been bad. tom and jerry, jerrry shoving fireworks down toms mouth. a lot of shows are funny, but they are messed up. i like family guy, south park, ect. i know there wrong, launguage, and stuff, but still funny. i 15, but thats whats wrong with the generations now. the avereage age to any act of s*x is like 13. i mean, at 15 people are still just kids, 13 is nothing, its weird. kids having party's and getting drunk at 12, and they think their all cool. bad careless parents, who dont disipline there child or make them do anything, and the media. your not pretty unless you... the first ~. i know a lot of the shows are bad, but are still funny. they just, i guess need to learn to just see the humor, but dont take up the acts. even though i a guy, and not g*y, i still thinks its weird that its normal for girls to wear short shorts that only cover half their butt., and in public too. i would be embarresed as a parent. and as the girl

  3. Too much misogynistic c**p, too much s*x, too much s*x, oh and did I say too much s*x...

  4. There are lots of things out there wrong with TV, but hasn't there always been?  I can remember years ago seeing Three Stooges and Tom and Jerry beating each other up.  There also used to be large amounts of smoking and drinking on "family" shows.  I think the big thing is that we as parents have to communicate with our kids on the issues.  Some parents want to use the TV as a babysitter or a way to get their kids out of their hair.  That's sad.

I have a ten year old daughter and she watches some television, like Hannah Montana and stuff, and it makes me really proud because sometimes she'll see a character talking back to their parents or being flirty - but she will comment to me that they're not doing good things.  It becomes a great teaching tool to talk about situations that might arise.

TV has some really bad things out there.  We just have to monitor what is being watched.

  5. too much s*x and swearing....and most of the shows are just mindless and stupid

  6. I agree with you, I just wanted to add the "lazy" factor. Children who sit in front of the TV are much more likely to be obese then those who have limited TV time. I want my kids playing outside, or doing something productive. They don't need to be sitting in front of the TV all day for entertainment.

  7. When I was real littlelike preschool/toddle age yes my mom set me in front of the TV so she could get things done and whatnot...i guess to "babysit" me. However I watched "Seasme Street", "Barney", and "Mister Rogers". So yes I was at least learning something while watching TV. Then when I wasn't watching TV, and we were spending time together she would intergret the things that were on those shows into our games and lay. She would be doing her job as well. She decided to make it a balence between the 2. The Tv was there to help her teach me things and want to learn, and then when we had fun togetheri would enjoy counting, and pointing out letters and trying to write my name because the TV made it attractive.

Once I got past the age of those shows, TV was pretty limited for me. I got to watch cartoons on Sat morning and that was about it. I got to watch movies outside of that, that was only Disney movies...I was addicted to "Mary Poppins" when I was a kid...even now if i see it playing on cable i watch it and sing along to the songs...brings the kid out in me.

You just have to pick and choice what your child watches. Limit it to Family organized shows/movies ONLY. try movies as much as possible vs. TV you loose the commercial factor, you loose the "I want this, because I saw it on TV" thing, You limit the exposure to the "perfect woman/man" image. There are plenty of ways to intergret the TV to NOT being an enemy, however a tool in one way or another..whether its an educational tool, or its to keep them busy for a while...Either way it doesn't HAVE to be a bad thing. Of course NOTHING is good out of moderation.

  8. I think TVs is a pointless entertainment system u can actually over a period of time start to lose brain cells witch stimulates to worse grades and lower levels of reading skills. i think kids should go outside more often and not just watch TVs all day long.

    I'm 11 lol

  9. It only can be bad if the parents doesn't explain to the child that the stuff on t..v Is not real and people don't act this way in real life.
