  1. French beans, boiled with a dash of Lea and Perrins, mixed herbs, drain and keep warm until required, serve with a smidgen of slightly salted butter. A fine accompaniment to a grilled breast of Normandy Canard sauteed in Calvados and mixed herbs A small portion of potato Dauphinois would not go amiss, a vin rouge perhaps? a bottle of 1998 Chateau La Carelle would be the crowning glory.

  2. Savoy Cabbage.

Thinly sliced, boiled gently for 5 minutes and drained ( never boil green veg with a lid, it washes out the colour).

In a frying pan, dry fry some cubes/strips of good bacon with some pine nuts, keep everything moving or it will burn. When the nuts are golden turn out onto a piece kitchen towel.

Add a little water to the hot pan (quarter of a cup +/-) and tip in the cabbage ( the water stops it burning straight away). Toss the cabbage to reheat it and add a good slug of olive oil and several twists of black pepper. When the water has gone add the bacon and pine nut back in, toss it altogether and serve.

  10. EVOO is extra virgin olive oil.  My favorite lately has been cauliflower, broken up into florets.  Drizzle with olive oil, add salt and pepper and toss it around with your hands to coat.  Roast in oven at about 400 degrees for about 15 minutes until it starts to brown.  Then, sprinkle with grated parmesan and gruyere/fontina cheeses, and roast again for about 5 minutes until the cheese melts.

This is so delicious and it's the best way to eat cauliflower!

  11. My preference is for a raw carrot, peeled and eaten Bugs Bunny style.

  13. My fave veggie is artichoke, and I like them simply steamed and served w/ lemon-butter dipping sauce.

I also love fresh baby spinach sauteed in EVOO + butter and lots of garlic.

  14. Potatoes - boiled, mashed, baked, fried (both before AND after boiling!) - and they can even be used as thickening ! ! !

  15. With the summer harvest in my garden under way....jalepeno peppers!!!
