Earth Hour bills itself as '

It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change? '

Sydney turned its lights off for 1 hour last year and a bigger one is planned for 2008 in many cities

However I know people who did this in 2007 but for every other day of the year continue to leave lights in unused rooms, carelessly waste water, drive to the shops 5 minutes down the road instead of walk or cycle

I wonder if people have been inspired (I hope so) or just think that turning off lights for an hour is their contibution to climate change

  1. its not supposed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. its supposed to raise awareness and i think it dose that well.

  2. with the lights out,,,, more baby`s will be born

  3. I think it's an amazing idea and I totally support it. Even if many people do not change their lifestyles after participating once in Earth Hour, some energy must have been saved for one night. I'm sure some people were inspired and are now making a difference. :)

  4. From what I could see on above site, they want people to take a pledge to turn off devices using energy for an hour a day.

Better to conserve energy around the clock but also live life and accomplish personal goals. Sometimes the former will be in conflict with living life and accomplishing personal goals.

Accomplishing some personal goals may lead to a better community and environment in the long run.
