  1. MEN: Rafa is on a serious roll right now. It seems like the last year and a half or so each Grand Slam has been decided by Fed, Rafa or Nole. I expect the same at this years US Open. Unfortunately for Federer, and for Djokovic, they are on the same side of the draw. Both of them in my mind have a better game suited for the hard courts at the US Open, but Rafa has been making big improvements this year and has shown that he is a man of all surfaces.

The way Rafa has been playing, I honestly can't see him losing, until perhaps the final. He doesn't really have anyone in his portion of the draw that I think will really worry him. Blake does have a winning record against Rafa, but Rafa has won the last two times they played. Federer will have his hands full with Djokovic in a potential semifinal. It sucks, but I almost have to go with a three-way tie. Alright, that's boring and safe. Scratch that. Djokovic has had a great year, but lately has been coming up short a lot to Nadal and a few other players (like Safin at Wimbledon and Andy Murray in Cincinnati and Canada). His game is suited well for the Deco-Turf II surface at the Open, and I actually could see him surprising us with a win at Flushing Meadows. If he gets past Federer who has been having a up and down year, including 4 losses to Rafa and early round exits, I would give Nole a good chance at beating Rafa, although Rafa has beaten Novak at the Olympics and on grass.

That also leaves Roger Federer. I could see him winning the US Open, as the stakes for him personally seem to be fairly high and he has had the best results at the last major out of the three. For some reason I have this gut feeling that Nadal's extreme high and near invincibility will end this tournament. I also have a sneaking feeling that Nadal may get at least somewhat injured.

I'd go with Federer first choice, than Djokovic.

WOMEN: This is also a serious toughy. I like Dementieva's chances to at least get through her section of the draw to the finals. Serena is looking strong and I think either she, Safina or maybe Venus will get through to the other final. I originally put my money on Dementieva, but now I rethinking things and think Dementieva may have a slight let down from the Olympics and come up just short like she has in the past at the US Open with a RU trophy. I can't see Safina winning it to be honest. She has been red hot, but I think she may run out of steam by the end of the tournament as her summer schedule has been extremely demanding. That leaves the Williams sisters, who I think should be the winner of this years tournament. I think Serena is very hungry to win her 3rd US Open and 9th Major. While I could see Serena or maybe Venus potentially losing to Safina in the semis, I think both of them (should they get there) are too experienced and eager to win to let Safina get to them.

I am predicting a Williams will win, more likely Serena. If neither sister gets to the final than I think Dementieva will take the crown.

  2. On the men's side, i'm hoping Federer, it would be great for him to win it and get back on track. Everyone has given up on him but i know i haven't. he's still the best to me.

On the women's side, it is really tough to choose coz there's not a single woman on the tour that is dominant and with the absence of Maria Sharapova, i think that we can't really tell.....

  3. men's side-i'm a nadal fan so i hope he wins but i think that djokovic will win it

women's-i guess one of the williams sisters will take it if not i think either ivanovic or safina will be the champion

  4. Djokavic and Sharapova all the way!!!

  5. federer

    venus
