  1. The American political system is alright, but like a lot more it's disigned to be run by honest men/women, no matter how good the system, if it's run by corrupt people, it is bad for the country.

  2. In honesty: less and less reflective of the American populace while spiraling deeper into corruption and ineffectiveness. See, the problem that we (I'm American) are facing now is a dichotomy:

On the one hand, our politicians fear "rocking the boat"; they're becoming progressively less willing to take a stand, to do what needs doing, or even to do what the majority wants them to do, for fear of alienating a (typically comparatively small) portion of the voting population. This results in politicians more interested in getting re-elected than they are actually in serving the population and resolving the issues facing our nation. This, in turn, yields a blurring of party lines (not necessarily a bad thing) into a homogeneous wishy-washy stance across the board (which IS a bad thing), with opinions only on "safe" issues.

On the other hand, also in keeping with their desire to stay in office, they are pandering more and more to special interests and third parties, circumnavigating the American people and, frankly, not leaving us a d**n thing to do about it. It is my opinion that we as a population have very little say in our country’s governance. We can vote (and I do, religiously). Great. But since one candidate is functionally identical to another, and the leagues of red tape and fear of reprisal in practice bind their hands the second they enter office, the election proper is rendered near-moot on all but cursory social questions.

I can sum it up like this: I believe that our candidates fall into two groups: some, perhaps even many of our potential officeholders are idealistic and genuinely want to do good, but, when actually put into a position of power, realize that due to their predecessors and the current political climate, they find themselves neutered from the get-go, and therefore fall back on just staying afloat and getting reelected. The others are entering to forward their own power and finances, and serve the population as uselessly as putting a retarded dog in the post.
