Question:

What's your criteria for "best" fans?

I ask this because I've repeatedly seen people ask which team has the best fans. To me, best is a very subjective term. When you talk about a team's fan base, what criteria are you using to justify that they're the "best?" Is it the number of fans? Is it their behavior toward their home team? Is it their behavior toward opposing teams? Is it how many fans they attract on the road? Is it their knowledge of the game? Do celebrity fans play a role?

So tell me, Yahoo! Answers folks. Give me your criteria and then tell me who you think has the best fans. Take it seriously, please, but have fun.

  1. I think the best fans are knowledgeable about the game, loyal to their team but respectful of other team's fans at the same time.

Celebrity fans will never attract me to a team, but they may turn me away from one. I was never a big Braves fan to begin with, but whenever they showed Jane Fonda cheering for them I just shuddered.

  2. All I ask is respect. While many fans are respectful & courteous, a lot are just rude braggarts. I don't expect perfection; we all probably get that way from time to time. Just don't make a habit of it :)

I'm all for being proud of your team & their accomplishments, but a little class goes a long ways.

  3. they've gotta be dedicated to their team and they can't lose faith, even if their team is doing HORRIBLY. also, they have to respect fans of other teams.

last criteria, they can't be bandwagoners and they should know a lot about their tema

  4. 1- Cares more about your team winning than another team losing.

2- Is knowledgeable about not only their team, but the entire sport as well.

3- Is realistic about what their team is (believing your team is the Big Red Machine when it is 10 games out is stupid).

4- Does not act like an azz and is respectful.

5- Does not use game attendance as a measure of a team's or fan's worth.

6- Cares more about the team than the venue it plays in.

7- Does not stop being a fan because you have a horrible season and then switches to a new team.

8- Watches the game when at the game.

9- Understands the season is 162 games.

10- Does not support bad management with your hard earned dollars.

  5. That's a dumb question. Any fans who STICK to their own team no matter what, through thick and thin, is a good fan. There's no such thing as a "best" fan. I saw a guy a month ago who was a loyal ROYAL fan. Doesn't exactly meet the usual criteria as a best fan but to me, that's all about loyalty. That's rule applies to ALL fans in baseball.

  6. Hi that guy Mel

What makes them the Best fans are fans who love their team and respect other teams and aren't cocky and rude like other fans and understand the game of Baseball and know a lot about their team and just good allaorund Baseball teams

  7. As a Cubs fan, I won't pick Cub fans just to be fair, but would have to say Cardinal fans are the best.  They know baseball and respect the other team.  I've been to several games there and never had a problem with their fans in any way.

  8. I think The Oakland A's have the best fans. I've been to may games there and there's a section at left field where these fans are there every I mean every game, with the flags and drums. They are very respectful people. Even the owner has sat with the fans a few times to watch the game and be part of that cheer.

  9. Best Fans:

    1. would be there for the team even if they don't win any games.

    2. Try to watch all the games, Even if they are losing

    3. Respect other teams. i hate it when they say Yankees Suck when, even though im a total sox girl, They clearly don't suck.

    4. Know the game! no bandwagon fans

    5. enjoy the game.

  10. 1.  Dedicated to the team during winning streaks and when losses occur.

    2.  Stays until the last out without excuses, except in emergencies.

    3.  Always respects opposing fans and players as well as their own home fans and players too.

    4.  Always wear licensed MLB gear and jerseys because that's one way the team makes money to be able to pay player's salaries.  Sales of counterfeit merchandise makes the franchise lose money.

    5.  Never lets team issues or controversies get in the way of their own personal lives.  Does not dwell on losses and always looks towards the next game hoping for a better outcome.

    6.  Does not pay attention to bandwagoners because they're also spending money and filling seats in order to help the team's success.

  11. not trying to be funny the best fan has reflect off the team

    best team= best fan

  12. A true fan is someone who loves their team through the good, the bad, and the ugly. They know the game and they stay sober enough to actually watch the game without passing out. They watch games through the rain, the sleet, and the snow. Well not that they would play in the snow and sleet. They know all the stats for every player on their favorite team. They have never been to a rival game unless they were playing their favorite team. They own season tickets and go to the greatest lengths to watch a game live. Rally monkeys are a big plus. The Red Six have the best fans because they are easy to get along with.
