The Harry Potter and Twilight series are both great. (minus the last book of Twilight in my opinion...*shudder*)

Otherwise, I'd have to say "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. A fantastic read.

The writing in The Way the Dead Live, Wild Swans and One Hundred Years of Solitude is amazing and The Riddle and the Knight is so well written you just want to pick up and follow the trail yourself - except that now most it's in a recovering war zone or a potential war zone.
