Here is one of my favorite poems (by Winifred Welles). What's yours?

Green Moth

The night the green moth came for me,

A creamy moon poured down the hill,

The meadow a silver sea

Small pearls hung from every tree

And all so still so still

He floated in on my white bed,

A strange and soundless fellow;

I saw the horns wave on his head.

He stepped across my pillow

In tiny ermine boots,

And spread his cape of green and yellow.

he came so close that I could see

His golden eyes, and sweet and chill,

His faint breath wavered over me.

"Come, my child, my beautiful." said he.

And all so still so still.

  1. Walking through the snow kicking my heels

Seems that sunlight never felt so good before

Bet you really don't know how it feels

I don't have to answer to no one no more

    And better I've never felt

Nothing to show, but nothing to lose,

    I'm on my own

Cast your mind back not so long ago

I was always busy playing by the rules

Bet you thought I really didn't know

You were double dealing, now you're back at school

    Something you didn't learn

    Faith in myself

Gives me the strength to carry on

I'll do what I want to anyway

I'll do what I want and I'll do it in

    My Own Time

Don't give me that same old pack of lies

I'll tell you the story how it really is

You think you always had me under ties

Someone better tell you that the table's turned

Getting your fingers burned, how does it feel?

Now it's for real, this is the deal

I'll do what I want to anyway

I'll do what I want and I'll do it in

My Own Time is on my side again

    And one thing I intend

Is I'll do it in My Own Time

  2. Lyrics, for "Hello Sailor", one the greatest protest songs that no one has ever heard.  Written by Liz Phair under the name Girlysound, circa 1991.

"""""""""Hello, sailor, buy you a drink?

Hello, sailor, tell me what do you think?

How was the big beach, how was the sand?

    Did you fly an aeroplane?

    Did you get a tan?

How does it feel to be back on American soil, hearing no blood

    for oil?

Hello, sailor, tell me what do you think?

Hello, sailor, will we get him next week?

How does it feel to be hated and loved back home?

    You should have known

That I'm a little despot, short and stout

Here is my handgun, here is my crowd control

When you tick me off then the bullets fly out

Because free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

Free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

    Hello, sailor

Hello, sailor, buy you a smoke?

Hello, sailor, can I tell you a joke?

    Knock knock, who's there?

No, I'm just happy to see you

It'll be a hundred if you come

Hello, sailor, tell me how does it feel

Hello, sailor, to be fighting for real?

Sailor, they got you coming and going

Sailor, look out cause your pu**y is showing

How does it feel to be back on American soil. hearing no blood

    for oil?

I'm a little prostitute, I put out and sell

Here come the market monkeys with their little fontainelles

When they tip me over, they better tip me well

Because free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

Free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

Hello, sailor, buy you a f**k?

Hello, sailor, you had much more than luck

You had the US of army on your side

And that red, white and pride

Hello, sailor, I mean women and men

Hello, sailor, you gonna be up for it again?

How does it feel to make shooting stars in the sky?

Was it a rush to almost die?

    Hello, sailor

    I said hello, sailor

How does it feel to be back on American soil, hearing no blood

    for oil?

I'm a little liberal, I'm stupid in doubt

Here is my platform, here is my holy-roller

When you snow me under, I rock 'n' roll you out

Because free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

Free love is a whole lot of bulls**t

Free love is a whole lot of bulls**t"""""""""

Why?  Because free love IS a whole lotta bullsh.....

  3. Born down in a dead man's town

The first kick I took was when I hit the ground

You end up like a dog that's been beat too much

'Til you spend half your life just covering up

    [chorus:]

    Born in the U.S.A.

    Born in the U.S.A.

    Born in the U.S.A.

    Born in the U.S.A.

I got in a little hometown jam

And so they put a rifle in my hands

    Sent me off to Vietnam

To go and kill the yellow man

    [chorus]

Come back home to the refinery

Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"

I go down to see the V.A. man

He said "Son don't you understand"

    [chorus]

I had a buddy at Khe Sahn

    Fighting off the Viet Cong

They're still there, he's all gone

He had a little girl in Saigon

I got a picture of him in her arms

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary

Out by the gas fires of the refinery

I'm ten years down the road

Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go

I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.

    Born in the U.S.A.

I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.

    Born in the U.S.A.

    By the Boss

  4. "She Says" by Ani Defranco....and yes

she says forget what you have to do

    pretend there is nothing

    outside this room

and like an idea she came to me

    but she came too late

    or maybe too soon

i said please try not to love me

close your eyes, i'm turning on the light

you know i have no vacancy

and it's awfully cold outside tonight

the rain stains the brick a darker red

slowly i'm rolling out of her bed

the rain stains the streets a darker black

i dress my face in stone

    because i can't go back

i feel her eyes watching me

from behind the curtain of her hair

    and she says i'm sorry

    i didn't mean to stare

i say i think i really have to go now

    but oh baby, maybe someday

    maybe somehow.

the rain stains the brick a darker red

slowly i'm rolling out of her bed

the rain stains the streets a darker black

i dress my face in stone

    because i can't go back.......

  6. THREE LITTLE WORDS by Roger Taber

Three little words, all I had to say

but dare not, day after day…

My heart ached each time I tried

so crossed my fingers and lied…

It hurt, each time you looked at me

as if urging I speak, break free…

Yet three little words I could not say

though loving you more each day…

My soul cried out in bleakest despair

so I shut my ears, tried not to hear…

I died when you heaped praise on me,

the coward in me you could not see…

Three little words, all I had to say

but dare not, day after day…

There had to be more to life than this

    growing empathy with Judas…

    To family, friends, at last I came true;

    no problem, love won through…

Three little words, I’m so proud to say

    day after day - I am g*y
