I think it was called "The Endless Summer".

But "Dogtown and Z-Boys", which is 25% surfing/75% skateboarding is by far the best documentary that has surfing in it.

Old movies:  Endless Summer.

New movies: I would have to say Thicker Than Water.  September Sessions was also exceptional and would probably be a close second.

Off the wall choice:  North Shore.  It is so awful that it is awesome.
