  1. It is so very hard to say favorite, but if I was stuck on an island and could only listen to one thing...

Beethoven's 3rd Symphony, The Eroica. Especially the second and third movements. Geez, how will I recharge my IPod on an island?

  2.      I don't have "a" favorite, but two; and could not possibly choose between them(strangely enough, they are the 4th of each composer).

P.I. Tchaikovsky: "Symphony #-4.  The best recording of it that I've ever heard, was by Raphael Kubilik and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Jean Sibelius: "Symphony #-4.  The best in my opinion, is that made by Herbert von Karijan and the Philharmonia of London.

Every symphony/organist combination I've ever heard has been outstanding. Movements 2 and 4 pretty much take the roof off.

  14. I'm a huge fan of Haydn's darkly beautiful "Sturm und Drang" symphonies, especially no. 49 in f minor ("La Passione")

I have a wonderful CD of these played by The English Concert, directed by Trevor Pinnock.
