  1. drink  and go to clubs at night.

and of course get in the water.

  2. Plan a day trip to Yelapa, it is remote, no to few vendors and the water taxi is a fun ride in a small boat. Sit on the beach all day there, eat and drink and enjoy the quiet atmosphere with the waves crashing.

I like to go to Le Kliff on some trips, the view is stunning, the food pretty good, it is pricy, but the atmosphere is amazing. You can take a taxi there from downtown.

I sometimes hire an english speaking taxi driver to cart me around to the great view spots for a morning, this is cheap and if you have a good guide, well worth the 40-50 bucks for the two or three hours.

A day trip to San Sebastian can be fun, you can even fly there if you want. It is a remote village that will really give you the non resort treatment  from old Mexico. The road is improved, so taking a drive trip is not a bad option now.

I like to go to Chez Elana for drinks up top and dinner later after sunset. The food is good, not too pricey and the view at sunset is amazing.

  3. I've only been there in late autumn so I don't know how things are in summer but, I love snorkling at the Marietas Islands (there are a number of tour operators that will take you there and provide gear, food and drinks), a sunday evening stroll on the malecon downtown should not be missed, as the locals all turn out in there sunday best and there are food vendors, artists and craftsmen and performers, the canopy tours are a blast and a few years ago we went on a day trip to San Blas to tour the mangrove swamp and see wild crocodiles, iguanas, many different bird species and other wildlife. The whole area is full of so many things to do you can't make a dent in it on a normal vacation.

  4. walk along the malecon, go to the plaza in old town section, take a bus ride to the sleepy town of El Tuito. Window shop in old town, go to the vendors market in old town....

Inexpensive internet svc on ground floor at Mega...on the main drag.

I love going to the marina..walk around, have lunch, talk to the folks on the boats.....take a bus trip to Tepic...capitol of Nayarit..next state north.....take a bus out to Punta de Mita or Bucerias...... spend the day just walking around......

  5. Yes, if you are young and foolish, drinking and clubbing are easy options, and very easy to do in PV. There are also great things to see if you want to go sightseeing. Its not a instant new "tourist town" like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cabo, Ixtapa or Huatulco. Its more like Acapulco, a complete older city where the tourism just sprang up around it!

There is golf, windsurfing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, fresh water and deep sea fishing, bungee jumping, parasailing over the magnificent blue Pacific or even whale watching in season, (or just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful tropical climate and magnificent ocean scenery.)

Once a small fishing village and now a first class world resort, Puerto Vallarta really has something for everyone. Activities away from the beach include art galleries, museums,  cultural events and many theaters as well as free concerts in the main square (Malicon) a LOT of shopping and wonderful restaurants. You can take several different hikes through the jungle to a remote waterfalls, crocodile farms and refuges or mountain biking down scenic roads or if you prefer, jeep tours…even view it all in a hot-air-balloon.

Bottom line - PV, like most of the tourist destinations in Mexico is a really "cool" place, better than most probably - you'll love it.........

(If you love seafood and "local color" I strongly recommend a meal at the restaurant "Ocho Tostadas" although I wouldn't order the house specialty of ocho tostadas as some of the tostadas come with squid, octopus etc. At first it may look too "native," concrete floors and walls open on three sides, wood tables and plastic chairs. And the prices are not that cheap, about 50-80% higher than you might expect from the decor. But immediately you will notice that the place is either full or almost full at all hours. There will be business people in expensive suits, taxi drivers, locals and tourists. The platters are huge and the food is simply fantastic! We had the "huachinango al mojo de ajo" - red snapper in garlic butter - indescribably delicious and the size was worth the price. Simply one of the best places for seafood I have even seen in the world!)
