I'm taking Celibrity Cruise, Infinity, to South America with my parents in March 2008. I don't know which land excursion should we take. Any suggestion? What's the most famous point of interest in these countries? Should we buy excursion from cruise lines or should we find local tour operation?

  1. Hi YR22005,

The list of my favorite places in Chile, Uruguay and Argentina is just too big to mention it here. However, I can point you to the links bellow so you can have a good overview on them and decide according to the time available while there.

Guess you're better off in contacting a local tour operator in each country.

    Happy travels,

    Daniel

  2. Well all three countries are beautiful and diverse. When I visited all three I enjoyed them all. In Argentina you must of course visit Buenos Aires which is the "Paris of South America". Beautiful streets, buildings and people.

In Uruguay you should visit Punta del Este (the "Riviera of South America") and Montevideo. Both cities are different in that Punta is a tourist haven whereas Montevideo is full of culture and historic monuments.

In Chile, Santiago has amazing mountain vistas and many beautful government buildings. Vina del Mar is great during summers as many flock here for the annual music festival. If you're quite adventurous I would fly to Easter Island (Isla de Pascua or "Rapa Nui") as it is one of the most fascinating site of an amazing past civilization.
