What's your opinion of Fevola?

Question

Is he a great player with a wild side but is funny?

Is he a good player, but a complete jackass?

Is he overrated and a jackass?

Background: I'm an American, just got into Footy. Adopted Carlton and Fev is the man on that team, so I'm curious as the general opinion of him is.

I agree with Lozz - Pies girl.

He plays in a very important position. He is expected to kick the goals and contribute largely to winning the game. To assess what he is worth to the team, watch how he performs when the ball is not delivered to him so he can easily catch it.

1.If it's easy, he's a happy boy.

2. If it's a contested situation and he wins, see #1. If he loses, he's not too happy.

3. If the pass to him flies high and wide around him, the acid test is - does he glare at his team mate, or turn and get after the ball like a team player will?  If he remonstrates, he's a sook.

It's as easy as that, it's a team game, and bad attitude negatively affects the team, and ultimately its performance.

**My personal opinion of Fev is that he's just you're 'normal' 27 year old guy who happens to play footy.  I don't think his personality has changed since he's a) become a footy player or b) become a high profile footy player.

I know someone who knew him when he was younger and says that he hasn't changed at all.

I like Fev a lot and while he needs to keep himself out of trouble (ie getting drunk in public and doing stupid things etc) I hope he doesn't change his personality.**

He is an extremely talented footballer with all the attributes to make himself an all-time great.  With one exception.  He is a complete and utter tosser which takes over at times.

Really fits the Carlton culture quite well.

now that hes 'given up' alcohol hes probably better. when he drank to much he can be a jackass and start peeing on you.

On the field he has 'attitude' problems that do affect his performance sometimes, and off the field he has problems.

I think that he is a bit overated but he isnt a jackass, if he goes out and kicks 8 goals in a match it defently means that he is determined to get a good game of football.

He needs to work on his attitude & the way he acts 'outside' of footy, but hes got good afl skills and thats why carlton have re-signed him for another three years.

Fevola really fits in at Carlton very well.

He upholds the culture of the club at the highest order. Gets into fights with barmen while away representing Oz in Ireland - & gets sent home; piddles against night club windows & gets arrested for that; knows all the local police - or at least they all know him!

Carlton has always had a reputation of being the club most supported by Melbourne's underworld characters - & that is how they gained a lot of their money to poach interstate players in the past.

They cheated & wheeled & dealed; breached the salary cap; cheated; tanked; sand-bagged; threw matches....you name it, they did it.

Fevola admired that type of culture so he joined Carlton. The number of tattoos he sports are not prison tats (I think)....he just likes to emulate crims.

He is a great player and doesn't bother me too much, He might have a wild side but he is first to admit that and one thing is he does not seem as full of himself like other stars of the game.

He is a good player when he wants to be, but apart from that, he is a complete and utter tool!

He only plays well when he feels like it, and is not a team man - He likes individual glory. He is arrogant, and loves to stir everyone!

As you can tell, I don't like him very much, but your opinions may differ!

Lets talk about the playing side of Fev, he is an outstanding talent, capable of kicking 100 goals a year, I think he is maturing as a player and seems to be more team orientated than he was in his younger days, off field he is a love him or hate him type but the game needs clowns like him we don't want to sanitize the game all together

Well i am glad that as a Newy to our Country you picked his

Team and him !  Haha , that is great, i am from the West of

Australia and i don't know , but i watch just a little footy, more

Rugby league, but from the time i saw " Favola " play , ( quite a few

years ago ) he won me.  And i considered myself a Carlton supporter ever since.

I think i would describe him as your first Description.

I can only say to you, by picking his team and Favola as one of

your favourite players .....YOU have Great taste and a good eye

for this sport.

Everyone knows these games are team games, but in all matches

certain players stand out more than others simply by the way they

play and score (goals) big time for their teams! Why should they not

be acknowledged .

I really dislike fevola. He is childish, idiotic, up himself, attention seeker, immature etc.

Fev is AWESOME!!!!!!  Very Glad you chose the Blue Boys as your new team.

Fev is the man of the original blues. Juddy is the best of the recruited Blues or Stevo.
