Are they good, bad, ok? I'm new to the boating world and am looking at a boat with a 1991 Force 100 hp ELPTO.

  1. HI there....   Force motors  were origionally Chrysler boat motors.  Force was given to Mercury In about 1986.  Mercury stopped making force engines in the mid 1990's.

I had a Chrysler 115hp. You could not get parts for them.

From what i have been told its the same for Force. Although Mercury built them like the force 100hp in the 1990s they were using carbs and componnets from motors produced in the 1970's and 80's Basically  Mercury used its old parts...

So waht this means is that parts are difficult to come by... For examle I live  Near Ocala FL..   we have dozens of marinas, boat andoutboard sales and repair stores and not one carries anything for a force.  Even EBay has a very limited supply of parts.

So   basically check to make sure you can get parts first..... important ones like.  Impellor, water pump rebuild kit, lower unit gaskets,  coils distributor,  power packs ...   these are the basics that you may find your self needing. And if you cant get them thenyou will be waisting your money on this boat.

  2. Unless you are receiving this package for no cost, stay away from this engine.Force engines have a overall short lifespan and can cost you lots of heart ach and keep you broke, all the while you are sitting on the dock wishing that you listened to me.

      35 years as a Master Merc/OMC/Vovo mech

  3. Originally Chryslers then dumped to Mercury. Mercury used the Old Force Brand to clear out their dusty parts bins. Should be a decent "old Tech" motor. Get a service manual for it and keep an eye on ebay for a used...spare power head.

  4. i think they r made by mercury or omc....both good ob makers
