  1. Compared to other high definition camcorders? I would prefer the better video quality from less compression... so I would not consider the HF10 on my short list. AVCHD has some quirks and I personally do not think compressing so much at the firs step of acquisition is a good idea. Anything downstream will rely on this initial highly compressed (and not yet mature) technology.

Until something better comes along, I'll stay with the least compression (and best available video quality) made available in the DV and HDV formats captured onto miniDV tape by the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9. Actually, I've been using a Sony HDR-HC1 for a couple of years and am on the verge of getting a HVR-V1U.

Take the hint from the pros - if video quality is that important to you along with ease of transfer, editing and archival, miniDV continues to be their choice, so it will continue to be mine. When I find the need for hard drive based storage, I'll look and an external that uses DV or HDV format - like those from Firestore. And if I REALLY want a flash memory cam, I'll look to the Panasonic HDX200... guess what format stores on those cards?
