Question:

What's your opinion on Mitsubishi HC1500 projectors?

I am planning to buy one. I read a review and it gave the model a thumb up for this price range. Is it worth $600? I can't afford a high-end model. The review said this model, however, has a problem: the rainbow effect. Have you noticed it? Is it a big annoyance? Thanks.

  1. The 4X speed color wheel is sufficient enough to eliminate seeing "rainbows," unless you are among 2-3% of the population that can detect rainbows regardless of the speed of the color wheel.  Nevertheless, you should take note that the PixelWorks deinterlacer is not very good in smoothing jaggies on video based DVDs or regular t.v. broadcasts. Look into a more expensive Faroudja deinterlacer found in Infocus and Viewsonic projectors.

    Good luck!

  2. It is getting very good reviews - 4.5 starts out of 5 based on 65 reviews.

$600 is very good, amazon has it for $930.

  3. Anything projecting via DLP is subject to the rainbow effect. And the bigger the screen, the more obvious it becomes. Most people, however, do not see it. Those that do see it are commonly people with astygmatism (sp?) in one or both eyes.

Go down to your local Best Buy and stand in from of any rear projection DLP set. Rapidly move your eyes back and forth on the screen. If you're going to see anything it will be while your eyes are tracking and usually when the screen is very white (snowscapes) or very dark.

If you don't see anything, you're in the clear to get your projector.
