I find it an amazing concept, have you heard of it? Seen a match? Just a fad, or the way of the future?

"Chessboxers go through alternating four-minute long rounds of chess and three-minute boxing rounds with a one-minute break in between. A maximum total of 11 rounds are fought out—six rounds of chess and five rounds of boxing. The fight begins with a round of chess. Each player has a respite of 12 minutes during the game of chess, which means the maximum duration of the whole chess game is 24 minutes. A K.O. or checkmate can lead to an early win, and the fight can also be cut short if a player exceeds the chess time limit or the referee decides the fight has to be aborted. "

Crazy stuff, huh? How long before this is an olympic sport?

  1. it is a fad, and will be gone by 2010

  2. If this is for real (and that seems like a pretty big "IF" it's interesting because it uses two completely different skill sets - thinking for chess, and getting hit in the head, which could interfere with the aforementioned thinking.

Kind of like biathlon, in which the cross-country skiers have to race, which gets their heart rate up, then they have to calm their heart rate in order to shoot targets with a rifle.

  3. In my speleology activities nobody moves faster than

slowest person present, we kill nothing except time, and

leave no trace of our explorations.  Chessboxing sounds

a tad too traveled if not 'dry-gulching' for my taste.

  4. It looks like you have mind and body covered. If you can add an event that involves spirit, you might have something here. Hmmm ... - LJS
