  1. Correct, none.

Looks like you have you eyes open. Can’t say that about to many people in society today. Most of us walk around with blinders until a catastrophe hits, then we wake up pretty quick. Unfortunately we go blind again a few months later…

Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

We definitely didn't start global warming, but we definitely do contribute to it now.

Natural gas (or Methane along with other thanes) for example, is completely a natural contributer to global warming and is derived pretty much the same way as oil. ie. Matter (animal, plant etc) decomposes over time resulting in a anaerobic (hope I spelled that right) decay of non-fossil organic material / gas (natural gas or methane).

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  3. we need to stop burning fossil fuels, even if we stopped today it would take 10 to 20 years to start fixing the ozone. we need to burn hydrogen

  4. Why should we worry about something that if is real would happen in years out of our lifetime. Global warming may not even be real. We should worry about things happening currently and that we know exist. WE SHOULD WORRY ABOUT BRINGING MY FATHER HOME FROM AFGHANISTAN AND MANY OTHER FATHERS OR MOTHERS IN WAR!

  5. Since aircraft are the only man-made climate change source proven, by the actual removal of the emission source, start capping flights and stop over the top (arctic flight routes-#1).  Use sustainable solutions for environmental, economic and long-term transportation needs.

(The temperature had an immediate and dramatic change, when aircraft are removed from the atmosphere.  When the aircraft were grounded for 3-4 days after 9-11, the temperature quickly and generally reverted back to pre-1950's temperature records, before the jet age.-#2 )

  6. I think green house gases do have a large role in global warming. CO2 is a big one, and by planting more trees, getting rid of gas powered cars by replacing them with solar, electric, or hydrogen (extracted from water and not oil), and by putting stricter regulations on factories, global warming would no longer continue to disrupt the Earth's normal cycle. People are a force of nature, and they need to be aware that they have the power to change things for better or worse.

  7. Yes its the newconcept from the late 20th century. In 1970s it was said that the Global Cooling.

  8. hate to tell you this BUT... if i was a time traveller i would be allowed to tell you that the people that didnt believe in global warming were wrong....and the world didnt respond in time to the warnings..{when they woke up the lily pad effect had taken over}....     and  the resulting scramble for resources and the conflicts that ensued hastened the end of the civilised world.

  9. my O on the G.W. deal is as follows:

    1. natural weather Cycle/Pattern , that no-body can define or determine the Frequency or Expectancy of.

    2. 50% or less can and must be attributed to Human-kind since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

    3. states that Human-kind DOES NOT have the Intelligence OR Capability to handle Pressure when necessary , = no foree-sight or abiltiy to think ahead.

this doesn`t include me , asi already have a Contingency Plan to bear any thing that should come   `to-the-fore`

    later...!

    4.  none of US are God or Mother Nature , so why Panic about some-thing you (as an individual) won`t stop or have ANY influence over..?

  10. All intelligent and aware people know that global warming is real and that we are contributing to it.

All the other flack that you're hearing is to protect the powers that be.  All this disinformation is thrown out there to confuse the issue.  People who believe it should know that that is exactly what you have, pure belief.  There is no scientific debate amoung real scientists.  This c**p is all invented by the political right. And many of you fall for it.

Like I said in another post here;  there has not been one single peer reviewed scientific paper showing that we are not causing global warming and over 940 that show that there is indeed global warming and that we are contributing to it.  Peer reviewed means that the world's scientists check your work and approve it or not, based on whether your science is correct.  If the naysayers could produce even one such paper, believe me they would.  The oil companies have millions, no billions, that they could throw at such research but it won't pass peer review because it is baloney.

Even without global warming we are destroying every ecosystem on earth, largely as a result of burning fossil fuels.  We are part of the ecosystem.  Everything is interconnected and in some kind of symbiotic relationship with other species.  When you start disrupting these ecosystems and these relationships you mess up the whole.  It has been shown that species have been going extinct in the last 100 years or so at a rate 1000 times the background rate of extinction over hundreds of millions of years.  As these species go, so will we go.  We can't exitst in some vacuum separate from the whole.  I could quote you thousands of instances of where we are destroying species and ecosystems at alarming rates.  Our oceans are almost dead now.  Only about 10% of most food fish remain.  Only 1% of some whale species remain. Only 5% of our old growth forests remain.  There is so much plastic in the ocean that algae, which are at the bottom of the food chain are ingesting minute particles of plastic and passing it along the food chain.  There was an article last year in National Geographic about toxins in the body.  A writer's body was tested for about 260  chemicals.  He had 165 of them in his body.  They tested him for 28 kinds of pestisides. He had 16 of them in his body.  He had about 15 kinds of PCBs in his body.  He had dangerous levels of four chemicals including mercury and the chemicals used as flame retardants and plastic softeners and PCBs.

And he didn't work in any industry where he would be exposed to concentrated doses of any of these.  Just an average American.

We are poisoning ourselves and our planet to death.  Anyone who doesn't understand this doesn't understand much of anything.

National Geographic certainly hasn't any doubts about the science of global warming.

See my answers to the question:

Global Warming??  this has a lot of information about what can and is being done especially with solar energy.  We can have 95% of our electricity provided by solar in this century, and 65% by 2050.  In fact we can probably do better than that. My answer referred to here has more details.

Once we have a clean electric grid, plug in hybrids and electric cars will be truly green.

One company is building power plant scale fuel cells.  There is great potential in fuel cells for many applications.  There are all kinds of fuel cells so don't be fooled by generalizations about hydrogen infrastuctue.  The power plant cells mentioned above can use natural gas which is already piped into many plants.  Except it isn't burnt in a fuel cell.  It is electrochemical and much cleaner.   These same fuel cells can run on methane from cow manure or water treatment plants or landfills.

Electric cars have come a long way.  Check out the cars by Tesla and Phoenix Motor Cars.

There is an older movie about global warming and you can watch it online.  It's called "After The Warming".  It was made in 1989. It's well done and was ahead of it's time, before the subject became popular.

  11. As the scientists say that the climate changes & ice caps are melting in the artics will cause the disaters to human kinds and many animal species, I am totally agreed with what they keep on saying in the past ten years. We can see the snow storms in China and North America is so severe and so damaging to the human kinds in the south and west hemispheres. China has said that the economic cost of this continuous ten days snow storm is now more than 500 billion yuans, probably equivalent to one half of the annual total GDP(earned). It will cost much more to restore all the stopped electricity and water supplies in many provinces. Yet both US and China officials are reluctant to sign the agreement of carbon dioxide reduction quota in the recent international meeting for the common goal of dealing the global warning. They are the top two of highest pollutant emmision countries in this world.

I think the mercy god is giving the warning punishment to both US and China in the past two years. New Orleans and some other states in US and more than six provinces in China are punished by god with natural disaters.

I think not many Americans and Chinese people are really concerned about the environmental pollution will be shortened our lives, cost a h**l not of money and take it from each country's  GDP. I think everyone should start environmental concerned matters from his or her contribution. Such as consumer less energy, use less plastic bags, build fewer new and larger houses, driving less by taking buses or use car pools, and much more. We all are smart and educated but good for nothing to protect our environment. I think Hong Kong is the worst city in this world to do environmental concerned matters. The government still keeping the two fossil power generating stations and increased the car capacity from 300 to 400 per km recent months. I predict when mercy god get angry, his almighty power will punish Hong Kong by sending an earthquake to this evil city. They spent tens of million dollars by keep on advertising "Recapturing the Hong Kong blue sky" is sucked for its more health cost and deaths caused by the severe particulates in the Hong Kong foul air!

  12. Global warming is a myth. Plain and simple. Listen, what is now the US and Canada was covered in ice during the last ice age. The glaciers retreated and are still retreating. The world is just going through it's natural weather cycle. Eventually the ice will start once again to move south and cover the continent once again. I doubt though that Global Cooling will be freaked out like this warming has. Also, it was like -10 the past week so I went outside with an aerosol can to try to put some CFC's up in the ozone.
