What's your opinion on obtaining your college degree online?

Have you done it? What degree did you pursue? What college do you recommend?

Go to a bricks and mortar school that offers some classes on-line.  Most of the "on-line" schools are not accredited, which means your degree is worthless.  Employers are very aware of these schools and will not hire students from them.  Also, the credits will not transfer to a university if you deside to go on with your studies.  (college professor)

I have no problems with obtaining a degree online; however, I would make sure that it is a degree program offered through a traditional brick-and-mortar school.  There are several quality programs offered through schools such as Boston College, Indiana State, NYU, etc. that don't carry the stigmata attached to an online only school such as UOP.  Do your research and make the best choice for you.  Don't let online/offline availability be your only consideration.

I have taken several courses online (math, corporate finance), but not an entire degree.

It can be convenient, I can go at my own pace, I can still ask questions.

But if you want an entire online degree, please be sure it is from a college that employers will accept.  Many online schools are not well thought of by employers.

Seeing that everyone has been a little negative towards earning an education online, I want to add a bit of positive sight for distance learning.  I am currently halfway done with a Masters degree in Counseling from Capella University.  It's actually been a great experience to be able to learn and go to "school" at home, work, library, etc.  I can tell you now that I have a four year bach. degree from a public accredited university and I have never experienced teachers that cared and was personable until I attended Capella Univ.  I am in my fourth quarter there and my hubby is starting there as a IT major next quarter so he is excited.  Alot of people I know personally, co-workers, and colleagues, have gotten degrees from Argosy and Univ. of Phoenix and have gotten great jobs ranging in corporate, to teaching.   I have two friends now at Capella and we love it, so that's my experience and going to a brick and mortar university may not be right for you and distance learning is certainly not for everyone.

It takes great discipline and motivation, you have to stay on top of things.  I recommend Capella simply because it has great teachers, administration is good at solving problems, and their reputation is really good.  If you have questions, I'm at [e-mail]....

look into accredited online colleges. meaning those that actually have a real live school to go to but you're simply choosing to attend from a distant. AIU is a good one. otherwise i'd suggest just taking core type classes online, but doing the bulk of your real studies in an actual classroom. some employeers don't mind online courses so long as they are to further along your studies, and aren't actually the only way in which you attained your studies.
