Question:

What's your opinion on people who don't cover their mouth/nose when they're about to sneeze?

Personally I don't sneeze that often and when I do i'm usually alone so I don't cover my mouth or nose. But when I do have to sneeze and i'm near someone, i'll just turn around and sneeze.

I find using your hand to cover your mouth/nose when you're about to sneeze is disgusting and spreads more germs.

"As taught in hospital orientation, you never cover a sneeze with your hands -- ever. It's the best way to spread germs."

What do you prefer and what do you do, when you don't have any tissues or soap around?

  1. It's inconsiderate not to cover your mouth when you sneeze because others could get sick from the germs that are spread.

Although sometimes you sneeze unexpectedly and are unable to cover it fast enough.

No tissues or soap? Use the sink.  Worst case scenario- the sleeve. Amusing question....borderline elementary school. ;)

  2. thts rlly nasty i hate it

omg wen my bro dats do tht omg i rlly get pissed hes rlly annoyin i always cover my nose/ mouth =]

  3. Right, you shouldn't cover your mouth with your bare hand and then go around touching things, but you need to cover your mouth with SOMETHING. Simply turning around and sneezing isn't going to help anything, just causes your germs to go on whatever is behind you. I sneeze into a tissue or turn my head and cover my mouth with my arm. It's just rude to sneeze all over the place.

  4. I always cover with my hand, or better still with my hankie and I think people who don't are disgusting germ-sharers.

Sneezing creates an aerosol effect that spreads the germs far and wide to land on all available surfaces, and to be breathed in by other people. If you can catch it on your hands and then wash off, that's the best.

You can buy stuff at the supermarket that you rub on your hands and it kills germs. Don't have to wash off. Since I work in a job that requires cash handling and a lot of public contact, I keep a tube of the stuff handy if I'm sneezing at work. Don't wanna share the germs.

  5. the best way to cover your sneeze/cough is to cover it up with the inside of your elbow or whatever, that way you're not spreading germs int o the air, while you're still not getting it all over your hand either.

  6. I will turn and sneeze into my shoulder or elbow if my hands are full or I don't have a tissue. Air current also spreads germs, so it is best to try to keep it close.

  7. I just turn my head. You're more likely to spread germs by covering with your hand, even if you wash them. Soap and sanitizer doesn't get rid of all germs, and doing it in the air...not in people's faces of course...is probably healthier.

  8. eww!  cover your mouth and keep your germs to yourself!   there's nothing more disgusting than inhaling a fine mist of someone else's germs.  yuck, i'm dry-heaving at the thought!

  9. if you don't have a tissue or access to soap and water, then turn away from people. have at least that amount of manners.

  10. My high school history teacher kept reminding us that the germs from a sneeze travel 20 feet.  So anyone who doesn't cover is just being gross.

  11. We think so alike lol

well no...instead of just turning i grab my shirt and kinda cover my nose lol or if i have a sweater ill just lift that and cover up

    =]]

its disgusting to think about all the people we have shaken hands with that sneezed germs into their hands then end up on us hahaha

  12. If there's no tissue or soap around, you can sneeze into the crook of your arm.  Just bring your arm up to your nose, forming a V shape with the arm.  It keeps your hands clear of the sneeze.

  13. As long as they dont sneeze on me , I'm fine .

I just hate how loud people are when they sneeze .

ACCCCCCCHOOOO ! sounds like an alarm clock !

  14. i thought of it as gross if you sneezed in someone's face. but if you do, what you said, then i think your fine. as long as you don't sneeze into someone. i would suggest, maybe sneezing into your inner part of your arm. i know, your thinking, "that's still spreading germs!" but how often do you touch someone with your elbow?

  15. well people who sneeze right on an object or worse- a person- is gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... but normally when i sneeze, i cover my mouth by putting my arm right over my mouth.

  16. Did someone not have parents to teach them the fundamentals of proper manners and etiquette? It shows someone has no class whatsoever. It's extremely rude not to mention unhygienic.

  17. yeah, it is disgusting when people cover their mouth's with their hands, or when they dont at all, soooo, people should either sneeze into like their shirt, which is still gross, or into the crease of their elbow

  18. I have always put my hands over my mouth or nose when I sneeze.  That prevents  germs from spreading, and anyone who doesnt do that must have either forgotten to, dont seem to care about other people and/or  seem to want to cause misery to other people by releasing their cold and being rid of it.

  19. Disgusting

  20. I worked as a dealer in a casino, and when I had to sneeze, i kept my hands above my head, bent over and sneezed as close to the ground as I could.

Your're right, sneezing into the hands is the best way to spread germs.  Without a couple of tissues, that's the only way.

  21. Inconsiderate.  They could spread colds and the like.  What they said in the hospital is retarded because you're expected to wash your hands often to stay healthy anyway.  You aren't supposed to go around putting your hand into your mouth anyway, if you really wanna stay clean.  Just handling money spreads germs, so no matter what, your hands are fated to be dirty.

If you cough into the air however, airborne viruses will spread and there's nothing you can do to prevent the need to breathe.

  22. If you turn your head away, it's not as horrible, but the best place to sneeze in if there's no tissues is your elbow or shoulder, or any place that has clothing.  Germs die relatively quickly when not in contact with skin or a moist environment.

  23. It's disgusting!

  24. They are self centered inconsiderate jerks.

  25. if you don't have a tissue to sneeze in to, try to sneeze into the sleeve on your arm, or if no time, or your hands are full, try to turn away or sneeze downward, toward your waist area.

  26. I guess you should use your arm then or carry a tissue. If a sink and some soap is available, then I would use my hands and wash them rather than sneezing on my shirt!

  27. Interesting you were talking about hospital procedures.

I had a lung functional test at a hospital last year.  Needless to say they don't clean their equipment right after each others use.  I got extremely sick a week after my visit.

    Also

Doctor's & Nurses Do not clean off their steheoscopes so God only knows what is on that end.

  28. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

  29. Well, if they sneeze and were caught off guard, then it was an accident

But for people who just never do it, I find it gross.

I dont want their germs on me!

    Haha.

  30. If it's an accident, then I don't care; however, I am of the mind that germs get spread faster when you don't cover your mouth/nose. I'm a pretty hygienic person and out of plain courtesy, I'd like other people to cover their mouth when they sneeze in front of me.

Especially when people cough, do not cough in my face. Cough away and preferably keep it within your boundaries like your hands.

  31. I usually try and prevent the sneeze, but if it must come out I turn around. I, too think its gross to use your hand. Look at it like this:

3 girls are together at a park, one has to sneeze, she covers her mouth. They say "bless you". Then she goes and does a handshake with her friends or high fives them. BOOM. Lots of germs are spread. But if the sneeze got on the ground by turning around, it is fine. One of those girls could of easily gotten sick.
