What 'spooks' a cat?

I have a 12 yr old cat who is normally placid, yet today, he is running round, trying to get behind furniture and is startled by the slightest noise.

I don't think anything has happened to him, as he hasn't been out today due to the rain.

Thanx for all your answers.

  1. Oh dear Cymraes

When my cat did that, it was because he was ill. Hope I'm wrong, but he could be hiding from you trying to sort himself out in peace

  2. it was a ghost cats can sense poltergist

  3. There is a psychopath sh*tting in his litter tray.

  4. We have 3 as you might recall ..Of those one keeps running into things at every opportunity..It may well be that your cat has done the same and has a slight concussion of sorts..You may need to have the cat checked if the skittishness persists..

    Thats sensible for me..mmmm.?

  5. dogs?

  6. He might have seen something to startle him, cats are curious creatures, I got a kitten like that, but it's because i won't let her out till she's been spayed, and if she can get out she will. she runs ragged around the house and hides in anything, but that's just letting of steam cos she can't get outside, poor thing. He might want to go out dispite the rain, he's letting off steam.

  7. Maybe he is just bored if he hasn't been out today and it used to being out?

  8. He sees Dead Cats.

  9. Cats have far better hearing than we do, and he may have heard something new that he doesn't understand. If he hasn't been outside he may not have been able to find out what was making the noise and so has just become scared and threatened. It might have been a car back-firing outside or birds in the attic or something like that.

Leave him to his own devices for now but keep an eye on him to make sure he calms down over the next day or so.

Another reason for cats to be skittish is a flea infestation so it might be worth checking him for signs of fleas - red spots on his coat, increased scratching, etc.

If it goes on for more than a day more, then it's probably a good idea to get him to the vet to be checked over, just in case.

  10. he may be starting with an ear infection, so I would try and keep an eye on him.

  11. It could be anything from coming close to a car to another cat or maybe a dog chasinc him/her.

Keep an eye on her,if she isnt better by tomorrow I'd take her to the vet just for them to lookover her, cats are easily spooked, mine are spooked by the deoderant spray I use lol

Hope shes better soon>:D< give her a chin rub from me

btw if cats hide behind stuff its usually a sign that they are trying to hide from something or other.

  12. LOL, my cat is terrified of the hoover and empty food bowls

  13. cats have senses we can only dream about. they can be seen as mystical and able to perceive things we can't see. or maybe your cat found some catnip and is high as a kite.-blurey
