  1. Julie and Reuben:

I just want to clarify that Mexico is not part of Central America. Also, I know that Guatemala is one of the countries with the highest incidents of illiteracy. Literacy rate in Guatemala is about 66%, Nicaragua is about 68%, Honduras 75%, El Salvador 78%, Dominican Republic 84% and Brazil 87%.

Mexico has 90% and Costa Rica 96%.

  3. Probably Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru.

  4. ILLITERACY rates: Guatemala (42,1), Nicaragua (32,8), El Salvador (25,9), Honduras (24,4), Dominican Republic (16).

If Haiti is considered a Latin American country (they speak French) it would be # 1  with an illliteracy rate of 50.6%.

Brasil, where Portuguese is spoken, would come after DR with 14.6.
