I want to be a secondary school english teacher, and my school hasn't given me any advice as to which subjects I should be taking.

On my form, I ticked English Lit, History & Psychology. Will these be ok for the job I wish to do or are there any others I should be taking???

Help Please????????

  1. They are really good subjects for English teaching.

English - cus you want to teach it!

History - Well respected academic subject

Psychology - good for understanding people and learning!

    Good luck!

  2. Look on some uni websites and see what A levels they require.

  3. These subjects seem very sutible to me. If you want to do a fourth A level i would recommend drama or a language as thse both further your skills but are also english related. However, these are obviously  not essential to become an English teacher.

  4. U need to have Alevel English to get onto a english teaching course in uni, apart from that u can take wateva else u wan!

  5. Are you going to do an English Degree and then get a teaching credential like a PGCE, or are you going to do a B.Ed degree and kill two birds with one stone?

Pick the university or college you'd like to study at and then research their requirements in respect to matriculation.
