What ADD/ADHD medicine would be recommended if I had a history of Tourettes?

  1. My son has tourettes, the tic type but not vocal and he takes concerta. Meds can sometimes make the touretts worst but has not in our case at all. Its trial and error I'm afraid. Even if the symptoms do gets worst on meds the heightened symptoms should subside in two weeks anyway.

  2. Be sure to ask your Neurologist.  

    Some meds for ADD/ADHD can make the symptoms for TS worse (like Ritalin).  Clonidine may be good for TS plus ADD/ADHD.  

    Tourettes is a spectrum disorder and it is different for every person who has it. What works for one person might not have the same effect on someone else. Unfortunately, medications for TS are all hit and miss. You just have to keep trying until you find something you are comfortable with
