I hear that the KEF KHT-3005 are the best, is this true? I am going to buy them for 1000 bucks at circuit city. I have an ipod and need an av receiver, I would like to have one that I can plug the Ipod directly into it without having to buy a separate adapter, and under 450 bucks...is there anything like that? What is the best one? Or the best one for this system?

  1. Jeez NOBODY mentioned the DENON LINE?!

I had Onkyo...the amp smoked within 3 years of purchase, and it would have cost the same to replace the boards as a new unit....

Learned my lesson on that one....

And KEF isn't the best. You must have heard that from a salesman at Best Buy.

Overall the DENON is built more rugged, I have had Loads of customers with Yamaha (too tinny) and Onkyo (blows up) and Denon (mmm mmm good!) over the years, and it seems you get more for the money from DENON....

Especially if you get into the mid ($500) and higher end models ($800 to $1000)

I think the AVR 3805 or 5805 is the PREFERRED amp...

I own the 787 and I'm happy with it, but boy do I want to Upgrade to the 3805/5805.....

  2. Check online for this model Yamaha RX-V663.

I think it might be a little over your budget but it is a very good model.

  3. Onkyo TX-SR605 - HDMI1.3, great processor and sound.  Under $400.  You can plug audio-out line directly into audio-in of the receiver.  If you want to see the display of the iPod on the reciever - you need to get an dock.  I do not think there is a receiver with direct iPod connection - only audio,
