Well, you automatically get better seats on the busier flights. Sometimes international planes, with nearly 2x the legroom are used instead of domestic planes. When booking, look for flights with the 757, 767, or 777 as the aircraft. As for airlines, Delta is known to be good. You have to connect somewhere, so your options are open. continental is also quite good. I would avoid northwest. American and United are alright. US airways is also fine. Bottom line- Continental or Delta and get on big planes.

I would say when flying domestic, first class on the legacy carriers are about the same.
