Are American (junk) food products, like Doritos or Snickers or Gatorade, sold in stores in Peru? And are there restaurants that serve common American food?

  1. If you mean fast food, there are lot of Kentucky and Mc donalds in Lima, as well as pizza, but if you are expecting something like chicken curry, you are going to find out at the Irish pub whether in Lima or Cusco. There are internationat tourist restaurants so you can get other american specialities, even sushi which is popular in USA.

good food, nice tours, excellent tour guides at

  2. Yes, there are Doritos, Snickers, M&M's, gatorade and almost anything else you can think of sold at Peruvian supermarkets, especially at the capital city: Lima. The one thing they don't have, and I'll have to admit that I miss, is wheat-thins.

As for restaurants, you have Friday's, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King, Chilli's, Tony Roma's and a buch of others that I can't remember right now.

  3. I was just there and was able to pick up everything you mentioned plus some M&M's and a pack of Chips a hoy.  There are also several McDonald's in Lima.  That said, don't waste your time with junk.  Peruvian food is amazing.  If you want to get your sugar on, try a dessert called Suspiro Limonese.  It's way better than anything you'll find at a convenience store.

  4. Every food in Peru is by definition American.  Please note on the globe that Peru is in South America.  That would be below North America.  Perhaps you mean the United States?

  5. Lima can provide you with a huge ammount of American junk food, outside Lima this would drop a lot.

The only American Brands that didn't satisfy the local taste has been TACO BELL, Kellog's Pop Tarts, canned soups & meals don't have much rotation and therefore you don't see Campbell's at the store (now they have another brand "Best" I think). Here people are used to dehydrated envelope type package for soups.

Peruvians have great taste for food and that would be the least of your problems while visiting.

  6. I think I remember buying a Snickers bar outside of Machu Picchu, but in general I don't think there are a lot of American junk food products in Peru.  There are plenty of Peruvian junk food products though, so tell your sweet tooth to never fear.

Be sure to pick up an Inca Cola shirt while you're in Peru.

  7. Most stores in Lima and cities you can find everything even joyy ranchers , all the choc bars, gatorade, powerade... even marmite, which is british! hahaha thank god for trade

  8. I´ve mostly seen lots of doritos, gaotorade, lays chips, also pringles are the most famus. but i´ve also seen Planters nuts that I love so much( and was happy to find here in peru), coca cola, sprite, snickers bars, mr goodbar, nerds, and some gummy candy. I have yet to see sour patch kids. . .but there are all kinds of American brands of candy. you´ll also find things like craft mac and cheese, and canned stuff. like soup and chilli. just go to a big grocery store, wong and metro usually carry American brands.

  9. Well undoubtedly Mars Bars.......if you call that food.  It will depend where you are.  The metropolitan cities will have everything the American little junk food craving heart desires, and there will be all manner of international restaurants including American (which will probably serve uninteresting hamburgers, fries, steaks, etc.)

I am always astounded by Americans needing to know this type of thing.  When traveling, the traveler should take the usual travel precautions and eat the local food.  It is usually tastier, healthier and cheaper.  And the locals like it when outsiders eat their food.
