  1. Sam Adams of course.

  2. IT IS NOT SAM ADAMS!

It will take some work to find it but I will look.

I must say you have a poor understanding what a req American is. You do not need to be born in the USA to be a real American that only makes you a native American.

A short list of American brewers brewing before Sam Adams.

    Anheuser-Busch

    Coors

    Miller

    Schlitz

Anchor (Fritz Maytag was born in the USA)

    Blatz

Sierra Nevada (Ken Grossman was born in the USA)

    After SA but better beers.

    Dogfish Head

    New Belgium

    And many more...

  3. The oldest and still operating completely American beer is Anchor... Started 1965, the founders of the American Craft Beer movement.

It amazes me how so many people think Samuel Adams created craft beer...when Koch didn't brew his first beer until1985.

    EDIT:

    Rockin'

No. I said "oldest and still operating" American brewery. Heck there were breweries hella older than Anchor... but none still operate. Finding the OLDEST completely American would be damned near impossible.

    EDIT:

Blumar Brewery later named Joseph Huber Brewing Co., founded in 1845. It is believed that Joseph was an American born citizen...though limited information is available on him...however, it is now Canadian owned. I still stand by my previous answer of Anchor Steam Brewery.

  4. Mayor - are you trying to say that no American born person started a brewery prior to 1965? That's just silly.

How about Jan [Jean] Vigne, the first white male born in New Netherland (1614). He was probably born on Manhattan Island and amongst other things owned a couple of breweries later in life.

Edit: Sorry Mayor - I missed that "still operating" part.
