Its that time of the year when I have to renew my anti-virus, last time I was advised to try Trend Micro as told it runs much better than Norton Anti-virus because Norton slow down the computer while working whereas Trend Micro does not so. And TrendMicro its been ok I think but I would like to know what will you recommend me and why. Thanks

  1. mcafee

  2. Trend Micro may use less of your system resources, but their detection rates aren't so good compared to other decent antivirus software.

As far as commercial software goes, I like Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Good detection, very tough self-defense, frequent updates, and pretty easy on the system. Eset NOD32 is also a decent choice, though not as resistant to attack as Kaspersky. Avira has great detection as well, though seems to be even weaker then NOD32.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus also includes some of the better antispyware software of any antivirus company, which kills two birds with one stone. And the suite has a good firewall as well.

For free antivirus, the free version of Avira has higher virus detection rates then AVG or Avast. But you get what you pay for..

Do a little research, and see what you think. Information is your friend. =)

  3. I have been using Avast! antivirus. It's easy to use, the home edition is free to download and update, and it actually works without slowing the computer down at all. Overall I find it very user friendly as well as affective, you should check it out.

  5. Avira Free Anti Virus

  6. AVAST OR AVG are two top ones

  7. Best Commercial Antivirus

    1. Eset Nod32

    2. Kaspersky

    Best free antivirus

    1. Avast antivirus

    2. Avg

    Best free Firewall

    1. Zone Alarm

    2. Comodo

  8. AVG, I have used this for a couple years for all of my computers/laptops. It does not slow your PC down and it scans everything in your computer, takes maybe a half hour to an hour. It works great, no virus's yet, and probably not for a long time.

  9. Free spyware programs to download are Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware 2007 and AVG. Most popular free antivirus programs are AVG Anti-Virus, Avira AntiVir , Avast  etc. Check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.

  10. Nod32 antivirus. Just great software. Do not make your system go slow...

  11. Trend is better than norton, but it is still an awfully bad resource hog.

If you want the fastest, and also best at scanning, try NOD32 from http://www.eset.com

There is a 30 day free trial available there also.  You can compare it to Trend.  I think you will like it, it's a great AV program.

Another bloated, slow program is McAfee... I would avoid that as a possible choice.

If you want a bloated memory-hungry program, stick with Trend.  At least it's a good scanner and won't cause your system to become unstable like norton.  McAfee is stable, but not as good as trend for detection.

  12. avg free edition its free and it works good also if you have spy-bots search and destroy with avg it works great it what i have and with thous two alone i haven't had any problems

  13. i advice you to try (ESET NOD32 Antivirus)

it's having a strong protection and also letting the operating system more speeder then the other anti-viruses
