What Are AR Pupils....?

Also known as Argyll-Robertson's pupils, they're irregularly shaped pupils that do not constrict when exposed to light but accomadate for a near object. They're supposed to be a sign of neurosphyllis but if you have them do you automatically have it? I looked this up but all I could find were short articles full of medical mumbo-jumbo... can anyone answer my questions in plain ENGLISH? thanx

  1. Here's some information I found that looked like it may answer your question somewhat.  It basically states that neurosyphilis is not very common these days and Argyll-Robertson's pupils can be caused by other disorders:

    However, with the declining incidence of neurosyphilis,

    the Argyll Robertson pupil is increasingly

    likely to indicate another disorder, such as sarcoidosis,

    multiple sclerosis, and, occasionally, diabetes mellitus.6
