okay im 18 and ive been a pescetarian for about 8 years due to mistreatment of animals. ive become a bit more strict about what kinds of seafood i eat and i only buy certain types depending on how the animal was slaughtered, if theres a threat of it becoming an endangered species, if the company is certified by well known organizations that stand for humane treatment of animals, etc. and then theres cage free eggs and such things.

but heres my problem. i kind of thought id research about how dairy cows are treated since im a huge milk/cheese addict. ive been to the dairy farm tour things when i was about 8-10 and it may have been naive and somewhat stupid on my part but i never considered the fact that they are deliberately impregnated multiple times just so we can drink milk. : \ i was horrified to find out that the babies are often thrown into the veal industry! thats ******* disgusting. i cut out pudding, yogurt, etc. years ago when i found out that they have gelatin in them. now im going to have to give up my yummy organic milk. well it wont be difficult considering the horror behind it all buti was wondering what are some good soymilk brands?!

i do love almond breeze soymilk (try it!) but it doesnt come in a full half gallon. andi drink a lot of milk! healthy bones and what not : )

has anyone tried 8th continent? is it good?

any good soycheese brands ?? (i might just have to cut cheese out in general if they taste like c**p)

what are some other sacrifices im going to have to make? it seems like milk is in everything! some pasta sauces, ice cream!...jesus christ : \

  1. try Almond Milk Cheese Alternatives Dairy-Free Sour Cream,Multi-Grain Milk Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts,Oat Milk

Rice Milk,  is not as thick as soy or dairy milks, and has a somewhat translucent consistency. Because it is slightly sweet, rice milk works well in dessert recipes and is not suited for savory or salty dishes, such as mashed potatoes. Compared to soy and almond milk, rice milk has less protein.

Soycheese brand: Chreese is a vegan, plant-based, cheese substitute made with nutritional yeast. The product is manufactured by Road's End Organics, a U.S. company that specializes in food for people with special dietary needs.

Tofutti Brands Best known for an ice cream substitute, Tofutti targets niches such as the lactose-intolerant, kosher, food allergy sensitive, vegetarian and vegan markets.

Aside from the ice cream substitute, the Tofutti brand also produces soy-based sour cream, cream cheese, sliced cheese, and egg replacements, in addition to several entrees such as a dairy-free pizza. 'Cuties' or 'Tofutti Cuties', their version of the ice cream sandwich, has made a particular name for itself.

  2. 8th Continent is MUCH better than Silk, but a little harder to find.  I use soy cheese all the time; and find it in the refrigerated produce section (near the tofu).  It comes in individually-wrapped slices of cheddar, American, Swiss, pepper jack, mozzarella; and also packages of shredded cheese.   It tastes like processed cheese food, which isn't as good as "real" cheese, but not so bad:) ... There are also soy yogurts available too.  Kroger has a refrigerated section (near the produce department) with all sorts of soy products.....You can use silken tofu (whisk it up) to thicken sauces and give them a creamy texture ...  Sorbet has no dairy (sherbet does); try Hagen Daz.  Also, Tofutti Cuties are wonderful "ice cream" sandwiches....

  3. try hemp milk. its one of the healthiest substitutes i think. rice milk is full of carbs, not a lot of natural nutrition. almond milk is...usually full of sugar. soy milk can give some people problems.

  4. I like Silk Soy Milk and Pacific Low Fat Vanilla Almond Milk for milk substitutes. For Cheese I like Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet Cheese. And for ice cream Soy Delicious, Tofutti, and Turtle Mountain ice cream/ice cream sandwiches.

  5. Silk organic soymilk, Purely Decadent dairy free frozen dessert (the best!!! Yum)

Soya Kaas natural cheese alternative...only tried the monterey jack, so far. it was Alot better than I thought it would be. this time, I got the cheddar style. havent tried it yet though, gonna make tostadas this weekend.

Dairy was the one thing I thought Id never be able to give up. (Especially Cheese)

like you said though, after hearing the facts on the treatment of the dairy cows, I am gonna try.

the alternatives really are pretty good. and better for you, and of course better karma or whatever you wanna call it, etc

Im on my second week of no dairy at all. Id been working up to it, trying new things over the last 4 months.

I ate a pint of Purely Decadent frozen dessert yesterday. still fattening, but no cholesterol, Cool!

    ;)
