Question:

What Are Some Good Stretches To Do For Flexibility?

I wanna get more flexible on the ice, and do lower dips and more shoot the ducks. I'm not really flexible and when I do a dip my butt is sticking out in the air, and it's really embarassing to do. What are some stretches I could do to help me? And how many times and how long should I do them for? Thanks a bunch!

I'm not trying to brush you off, but there is a ton of information in just these two questions - plenty of links and everything.

  2. What you could try is sitting on a ground and spread your legs out as wide as you can and lean forward. You should feel the stretch in your inner thigh. Do this every day for about 10 minutes. Don't lean forward so much that it hurts! All you should feel is a light burn. As you get more flexible, you should be able to lean more forward.

Another stretch is sitting on a ground with both your feet together and trying to kiss your knees without bending your knees. Again, don't stretch so much that it hurts. Just go as far as you can go without bending your knees. Also, while doing this, stretch your hands toward your feet, and if you can, grab your toes!

For your shoot the ducks, just practice shoot the ducks without skates on the ground. Try to balance in the shoot the duck position without your butt sticking out and without holding onto anything. Remember, to do both legs.

There are many, many other kinds of stretches and exercises, but these are just a few to name. By the way, if you stretch Monday, for example, on Tuesday, you might be a bit sore where you stretched them, and that's perfectly fine! That means you're stretching them! Also, you're not gonna be able to do the splits after just one week of stretching! It might take months, but it pays off when you can do outstanding spirals and spins on ice! Never give up, and keep stretchingg!

Good luck with your stretching and sktating! =]
