  1. The excuse for it was that Prince Paris of Troy carried away Helen daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta who was married to Menelaus. All of the princes of Greece had sworn to help recover her if anyone did carry her away. Some think a deeper motive was that Agamemnon wanted to destroy his main rival for trade in the area.

  2. Paris & Helen had a thing.

  3. It all started at a wedding. The Goddess (the only Goddess) Eris, the Discordian Lady did'nt get an invite, so crafted a Golden apple with the worlds *the most beautiful woman* inscribed on it. this is known as the Great Snub. this started an arguement between Hera, Aphrodite and Athene as to who was the prettiest. they couldn't decide, needless to say. Zeus brought in an independant ejudicator, a shepherd boy called Paris, to judge. he was promised many things by each goddess, but decided on lettiung Aphrodite win after she promised him the most beautiful woman on the planet. she had Helen of Sparta, wife of Menelaus, son of Atreus brought to him. Menelaus was less than impressed, told his big brother Agammemnon, who brought in all the other Greeks and declared war on Illium for 10 years.

  4. The usual cause in Greek mythology. Jealousy among the gods; or in this case jealousy among three goddesses.

    i actually dontknow.

  6. Okay, so there was this party, and all of the gods and goddesses were invited except Eris, the goddess of discord. So she decided to get revenge and threw a golden apple to the gods and goddesses. The apple was labeled: For the fairest.

So Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera get into an arguement of which one of them is the fairest, and they ask Zeus but Zeus tells them to ask Paris, a young prince, who is doing shepherd's work because of a prophecy that says he'd be the ruin of his country. So all three of them offer him something if he chooses them. If her were to choose Athena, he'd lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks, Hera offered to make him the Lord of Europe and Asia, and Aphrodite promised to make the fairest woman of the world his.

Paris picks Aphrodite, so he gets Helen, and then a big fight ensues about Helen.

That's basically it. If you want to know more, I recommend you read the chapter on the Trojan War in Mythology by Edith Hamilton.
