What Are The Job Responsibilities Of A School Principle?

What exactly are the job responsibilities of a school principle? Are there real duties involved with this position or is this merely one of being a "figure-head"?

It depends on the structure of the administration, but the duty of a principal (not principle) is to keep everything running smoothly.  S/he deals more with the staff and the superintendent's office than with the students.  The assistant principal is often more involved with discipline and student activities.
