There are both similarities and differences.  Similarities include effective communication is largely limited by our interests and attention level.  Differences include adults have familiarity with more topics, larger vocabulary, use multiple modes (including extensive writing or high-level conversation), and focus on adult topics and motivators (such as children, employment, taxes, current events).
