Hello; the pros and cons of recycling is ; #1. Pros...One gets internal satisfaction in doing there part to save the Planet Earth,s resources by going green.    #2...Cons...Well this would have to be either myself or my neighbors forget to wash to metal cans of dog food for example and we put yhje cans for the trash recycle people to pickup. Whew!!!; Unwashed metal cans can stink the neighborhood. I could be wrong but this is what I think the pros and cons are of recycling.

Pro:

- reduces demand for landfill sites,

- reduces need for incinerators,

- reduces energy required to manufacture glass, steel, and aluminium,

- creates a pleasanter environment for all,

- probably reduces energy cost of disposal

Con:

- the pros only work if the scale is sufficiently large and the infrastructure is in place.

- is less efficient than re-use, so give away articles that might be useful instead of recycling them.

I'd like to make couple of points about the logic of recycling discussions here.  

- Recycling is often discussed as though the only alternative was dumping but the alternatives to recycling are not just dumping but also re-use.

- Some people attempt to hijack the discussion by implying that only narrowly economic or energy based arguments are valid, ignoring the aesthetic requirements of civilized life.

You help the planet.

It makes the packaging cheaper.

I HATE people who don't recycle.
