Article 1: THE BAND WILL MAKE IT

If you do not believe this, all is in vain: the guitar lessons, the missed haircuts and the antisocial behavior. This is the premise that should drive your day-to-day life. The band has to make it.

Article 2: BAND NAME

Your band must have a name quirky and curt in nature. Actually Quirky & Curt isn't half bad. Other ideas to toss around include Suicidal Goldfish and Hearts of Arson. The name of your band needs to make a statement.

Article 3: YOUR BANDMATES

First, you must believe you are better than all of them. You are the real talent. Whether you are the drummer, the singer, the guitarist or the triangle player, you have to know you are the superstar. But you have to trust your bandmates enough to share real experiences such as the time your girlfriend broke up with you because you didn't have a real ambition. The song would be called "Jennifer, the Band is Gonna Make It."

Article 4: WARDROBE

Girl pants! Freddie Mercury had his spandex; Rob Halford had his leather. You will wear your girl pants. So what if they call you g*y! Mercury and Halford were g*y and totally rocked. Take that one to the compliment bank.

Article 5: DEAD END JOB

You wouldn't want to leave a job you really loved to go on tour, would you? Then pursuing anything other than a part-time gig that lets you focus on your music is a waste of time. Why not start a wedding cover band to make money? There's a solid gold idea, my friend. Just mention me in your liner notes.

Article 6: GEAR

If it comes down to fixing your car or buying a new amp, there should be no contest. You can find a ride to the show, but there is no substitute for turning it up to 11. Volume trumps transportation every time.

Be sure to tip your bartenders, and don't let anyone look up your skirt as you climb the ladder of success.
