  1. Put her in the sun light, and start looking through her hair by the scalp.  If you see little tiny white things stuck to the hair, those are nits. (lice eggs)  You may see bugs running to hide from the light also.  She will be scratching her head every few minutes.

  2. You've already told us in your previous question - those are the symptoms.

  3. An itchy head and very small white specks (they are the eggs).

  4. Itching, the most common symptom of all types of lice infestation, is caused by an allergic reaction. Lice bite the skin to feed on a person's blood. The saliva from these bites causes the allergic reaction and itching.

Itching may not occur right away, depending on a person's sensitivity and history of lice infestation. The first time a person is infested with lice, it may take several weeks or months for itching to develop or to be noticed. In a repeat case of lice, a person may begin to itch within 2 days of infestation because the immune system reacts more quickly when exposure has occurred previously.

Some people become very sensitive to lice bites and have unbearable itching. Others build up tolerance to the bites and have little or no itching, even with repeated infestations.

In addition to itching, symptoms of lice infestation vary depending on which type of lice is present.

  5. itching alot. mostly round the ears and at the back of the head.

  8. Itchy scalp and little lice in your hair

  9. Firstly you have to think if she has caught them how? does she hug her friends often? (i know i do) think of all the ways she could of got them, you can only get them from head contact. Next symptoms, does her head itch? has it got small white blobs (eggs) in it? when i got them for the first time my itched all the time even after i'd washed my hair, next how to cure them, make her wash her hair and then apply conditioner all over her hair. Make her sit down and with a lice comb, comb through sections of her hair bottom to top wiping the comb every time, try using a coloured conditioner like herbal essenes as you can see the nits and eggs easier, do this every night before bedtime for a week then they should be gone, after her hair will be so shiny and soft, good luck x

  10. Itching of the scalp, especially behind ears or at the nape of the neck.

  11. It's good practise to just do kids hair anyways..so no need for treatments, when a child as been in the bath make sure you thoroughly condition their hair and just sit and run a metal nit comb through their hairs..the fact your doing this will damage the eggs therefore they can't hatch into lice !!

  12. hey Barbra J - exactly how you described on your previous question, down to a T. Nothing to worry about its a common problem in schools. Try Hedrin or Full Marks solution to get rid of them.  You will have to repeat it after 7 days and again after another 7 etc until they are all gone. This is because the life cycle of the lice is 7 days for egg to hatch and if any are missed you will be reinfested. Then wet comb the hair regularly to keep the head clear. You will notice black grit on the scalp - this is the lices p**p!

  13. The itching occurs mainly behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. As this can be caused by other reasons like a shampoo change or dandruff, further investigation is necessary.

First and foremost, you need to establish for a fact you are facing a head lice infestation. Take your grandchild into bright light and check the head for live lice. They tend to stay where it is warmest, so first check behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.

If you discover live lice, you must then find out whether or not that have had time to lay eggs. Look for tiny, tear shaped droplets close to the scalp that are stuck fast to the hair shaft.

If you find both lice and eggs, you have a full blown head lice infestation

If you haven't got an infestation, don't go treating her with pesticide treatments. Not only is this an overwhelmingly drastic measure, chemical head lice treatments are not meant to work in this way

If you there an infestation, please see the following website for more articles and information.

    Good Luck.
