What Are Those Things In Science Movies?

Sometimes in movies, a person is connected to some sort of scientific machine and they are connected to it by wires with suction cups on the end that are stuck on the person's forehead, stuff like that. I was wondering what those were called, and what they do. Links would be great too! Thanks!

It depends on what the movies were using them to portray.

They might have different names for each one of them.

So for now on I guess you will just have to refer to them as specifically e.g. The machine in the matrix.

A brain monitor is called an electroencephalograph.  If it's hooked to a person's chest, it's measuring cardiac function and is called an electrocardiograph.
