Question:

What Are the Chances that Cox is Messing with my Bandwith?

Maybe you guys have heard about how certain ISP's are going to do away with unlimited bandwith. In preparation for this they have started restricting the bandwith of their highest volume customers.

My internet works very rarely and only on small volume webpages. When I start playing videogames online or listening to internet radio or waitching youtube, my internet mysteriously quits working.

I am wondering if it could be Cox behind this, I have Draft-N so I know it is not a problem with my wirelss router.

  1. I doubt that Cox is doing anything intentionally as far as throttling but they and your neighbors are likely to blame.  One of the reasons I ditched Cox and went to a DSL connection was they have a horrible setup with shared bandwidth and if my neighbors, with whom I was sharing bandwidth, were hogging it I had either a very slow connection or no connection at all.

  2. most isp would like to get rid of the 1 - 2   percentile  of heavy downloaders form there newtwork , if you are in that bracket beware, before they get rid of you they start the throttling process. yes they turn down your speed so to speak..///

  3. I've had this problem often when we were on Cox, now Cox in this area was bought out by Suddenlink. I bet it is Cox. Call them and they should fix it.
