I have 4 Chickens (3 hens and a rooster) and we have a fenced cage we put them in at night that worked pretty well until something decided to take off my roosters head through the whole of the fenceing and it was my high quality silky rooster he could have easily sold for $75... but to my luck he was killed and his body was left and only the head was eaten... What could have done this?

  1. I lost 7 chickens like that.  I thought it was a racoon, but it turn out to be a hawk.  BOP(Birds of Prey) will only eat the head and will often drink the blood.  Be sure to wait until 10;00 to let them out of the coop, and put them in no later then 6:00.  This kinna worked but in the end I had to kill the hawk.  I wish you luck!

  2. i think is chupacabra they love c**k (Rooster )head

  3. So they were locked up and this happened at night right?  No added holes in the fence? Or was the hole already there.  Or was this hole made by an animal.  Racoons are the animals that are best at breaking into chicken coops they have little strong hands and are Very smart.  We had a Racoon almost get into our coop. But that coop was Very well make like a chicken castle.

How do you know that the rooster did not get his own head stuck. Then broke his neck trying to get out. Died from the broken neck and an animal saw that as a quick easy snack eat the head and left?

Silkys are very cute but not the smartest birds. Crazy things like that have happened.

  4. it could have been a dog, cat, coyote if the rooster stuck its head threw the fence the animal could have just bit it off sorry for the loss.i woke up to three dead laying hens this morning that a neighbors dog killed

  5. Fox, coyote. They should have been locked up at night. A fence isn't going to protect them.
